Regarding transfers he’s gone from “there’s a lot of work being done in the background and we would hope to have the new signings in early and have a good preseason..” to
“It’s a few weeks until the end of the transfer window and these things take time…”
At his presser tomorrow he should be calling out the clowns who are given responsibility with recruitment.

Grind or not, with the key injuries, * windows and loss of key players to other clubs, no other manager gets us through that.

    For me.

We started playing better football with a fully fit squad. Who'd have thought it!

Ange had a torrid squad and injuries when he first arrived and up until January played a host of * poor and/or youth players with better performances along the way. I remember we beat Ross County away 3-1 on Boxing Day with a line up of:

    Barkas

    Welsh
    CCV
    Starfelt
    Scales

    Juranovic
    Bitton
    McCarthy

    Rogic

    Abada
    Dawson

Some of the performances last season were as bad as anything we've seen in years. There's no doubt in my mind that we underperformed against many teams for the vast majority.

Rodgers has some credit in the bank again for getting it over the line but the dismal performances shouldn't be ignored either. That said, this pre-season has given me hope that it will be better this time around.

Kyogo started that game to be fair. I don't recall the injuries being as bad from August all.the way to January. It did get iffier towards Xmas.

Regardless, still stand by what I said.

We had * games under Ange as well. I had my doubts over Rodgers but in the cold light of day he's a better manager and tactician than Postecoglou. For me at least.

I'm not ignoring the poorer games either. I'm acknowledging them and simply stating that I think there were several contributing factors to iffy form.

Close to identical in the transfer market as the last time he was here. Very strange. He openly slammed the board for lack of ambition and this has probably been the worst Windows in 20 years

Big part of me is hoping it’s because we are actually targeting quality and it’s not as straight forward. Would much rather business was done now but if come end of august we have added some starting XI quality, I’ll be happy with that. History tells us otherwise but not hitting the panic button yet.

Yeah I get that but for me it didn't make the season any less flat or a sore watch for the vast majority of it - despite ending up with a decent points tally lol

We picked up form and did the double when it mattered at the end while the huns began to crumble and I give Rodgers his fair due for that, especially dominating the derbies, but it's not exactly a season I'd be in any rush to go and watch the highlights back.

Enjoyment levels are subjective at the end of the day I guess...but the most important part was we got the job done.

I am really looking forward to this season though. We looked more sharp and more aggressive in pre-season. Add in some quality and we'll be good to go...

we looked good last preseason too before all the backways sideways * started freezing kyogo out of the game all the while waiting for the quality to come in january which never came . having a big * like probably encouraged more balls into the box rather than some tacticial masterclass from rodgers. here we are again going to try and wing it spending * all hoping we keep our noses in front of a brutal sevco side

To be fair, last pre-season we had a mostly fit team to pick from. Which was also the case near the end of the season when our performances improved a lot also. It was in between the start and finish when we were hampered with injuries that our squad depth was found out. Our options are terrible from the bench.

I think people underestimate what Rodgers achieved last year. That was and this is a poor Celtic team in terms of player quality IMHO.

is it really compared to the rest of scotland we probably had the best players in almost every position .kyogo ,mc gregor ,o'riley ,ccv and hatate had their injuries but they are head and shoulders above everything . a. johnston, scales, hart, taylor, maeda, palma, iwata, bernardo ,oh would walk into any team . we were playing pish football theres no two ways about it . the farcical position of losing jota ,mooy ,starfelt ,turnbull , abada , haksabanovic from the previous year had no doubt left us with a lot less quality .we could probably do a double this season again with no new players

Will be interesting to watch his demeanour over the coming weeks, every time he get's interviewed he will be asked about new signings, no doubt he will choose his wording carfefully.

He's very patient and also very deliberate in his wording. He's always been good in being able to highlight how recruitment is not living up to his expectations while not throwing anyone under a bus.

When he spoke about the "usual" negative atmosphere around transfer windows he was making a clear point in a pretty clever way.

Agreed. Think he came across quite * off with our dealings, to be honest. Continued to emphasise that we need to come out of the window stronger than we came into it and that we need quality in.

If we sign nobody else he’ll say:
“It’s very difficult to sign players of the quality we would have liked to have brought to the club…”
Happy to let the asset strippers Desmond, Lawwell et al do the * they want. A dereliction of duty with these greedy money grabbing *.

Brendan Rodgers insists this has been his best pre-season EVER as a manager - and revealed how one of his former Chelsea stars could see his stamp all over Celtic during their pre-season pummelling.

The Premiership champions blew the Blues away in South Bend Indiana during their pre-season tour of the US, dishing out a 4-1 mauling to Enzo Maresca's men. That came off the back of a 4-0 win over DC United and 4-3 triumph against Premier League champs Man City to leave Rodgers purring ahead of their season opener against Kilmarnock on Sunday

But it was the overheard assessment of one of his former Chelsea charges that told Rodgers his team are on the right track and producing exactly what he expects. The former Stamford Bridge youth coach took it as a major compliment and a sure sign that his team are hitting their stride at the right time.

This is arguably one of the best pre-seasons I've ever had," said Rodgers. "It was interesting, because I had one young player at Chelsea, a former player of mine, he said after the game we played against them, he was talking on the bench and he said: 'That's a Brendan team we were playing.' So that's a good sign for me on a personal level, because he's played for me before and knows what I expect and demand, and he can see it in a different team.

And while a domestic Treble will once again be the target, a vast improvement in the Champions League is a priority for Rodgers. "We have to be better in Europe, as simple as that," he demanded. "We can't beat about the bush when we look at where we're at, we have to be better.

But in order to be better, you need quality. If you're going to improve, we need to find that. It's absolutely as simple as that, so that's our drive and motivation. The ambition is absolutely burning for us to be the best that we can be.
