It will still be a huge lift to the team. It wouldn't make the window a success but I still think it adds a lot to the team. I don't think Idah will be here this week though. He will be in Germany this weekend with Norwich and he joins next week.

Don't think the squad would be weaker. Hart-Kasper is probably a wash. Sinisalo is way better than Siegrist. Oh is gone, but Mikey is back (at least for now). We don't need two target men. They mostly come useful in limited minutes off the bench in case we desperately need a goal. More often than not, we're better off with a mobile striker. Oh was 3rd choice. Hardly ever played after Idah's arrival.

Personally, I want us to sign Conway (over Idah) cause he can do a little bit of both. He's big enough to be used as a target man, but also has the work rate to contribute away from the ball. Reminds me of Giakoumakis.

It’s a shambles that we’re going into league opener with a back four of Ralston, CCV, Scales, Taylor.

3 of them are squad players at best.

Idah and Bernardo signings should’ve been done 4 weeks ago and don’t improve the squad from last season to this season.

Sunday should be a great atmosphere and all about getting behind the manager and team but there will definitely be digs thrown at the board.

Would be nice to know if we're actually after a CB or not tbh. Given that its so important not to chop & change defences during a season, if we start with a back 4 including Scales and Taylor and look to replace them after a handful of games we're basically shooting ourselves in the foot.

If we need to sell before we buy then we need to cut our losses and terminate contracts of Kobayashi or do cut price deals for him & Lager.

Getting Idah and Bernardo in the door will be good, but still a lot to do. Left back and centre half the big priorities, followed by a winger and midfielder if O'Riley leaves. A couple of those will probably be loans, but we really can't skimp on the centre half and O'Riley replacements.

You seen him training? A player that is at another club? It's highly unlikely a player that wasn't under contract with us would be allowed to train with us. Who is he insured under? Celtic or Benfica? What if he gets injured training with us and he hasn't signed? Who is liable?

Unless you have evidence then he may be in Glasgow but he won't be training with us.

You haven't seen Bernardo training though. Being paraded in a top and video is a different scenario altogether. And... There has been no sign of Paulo at all.

Hours we were told. It's no almost a full day later. Unless he has failed the medical.

It is getting a bit concerning now. In July it was fine we looked like we were building towards some signings but the only one that’s remotely close is Bernardo.

We have one striker, one left back, one dependable cb. The squad overall is weaker on last season. It’s all well and good saying we have the month of August but at the rate we sign players it takes weeks and months.

I don’t think we have the capacity in the recruitment/deals department to get the bodies we really need in over the next 4 weeks. I see 3/4 players coming in in August and if Oriley or Hatate goes it will be pure panic stations trying to loan someone in.

We had an entire 6 months from end of January transfer window to be identifying players we could bring in relatively quickly, to sound the clubs out and informally check in with the agents to see if potential deals were a goer.

Past performance is the only reliable indicator of future performance if the background remains constant. We have the same people in charge at boardroom level as we have done over the past few transfer windows. To think the way we do business has changed at all I think would be a mistake.

It’s the same soundbites about quality about looking for the right player, until we actually get evidence of that with quality players walking through the door then that’s all it’s ever going to be just soundbites that get regurgitated year on year on year.

It’s a shame for Bernardo when he eventually joins because it will be met largely with laughter as to why it took so long. It’s a huge 4 weeks for us but I cannot seem to shake the feeling we will be sat on deadline day waiting for that elusive LB that never arrives.

    Celtic
are doing due diligence on central midfielders in the event Matt O'Riley leaves the club.

Benfica midfielder Paulo Bernardo has completed a medical ahead of his £3.5m permanent move to the club, but it is understood Celtic will enter the market for another central midfielder if O’Riley is sold.

Philadelphia Union's Daniel Gazdag is one of a number of players they have looked at. Turkish side Trabzonspor have already held talks over signing the Hungarian.

It is understood the MLS side are yet to receive any formal contact from clubs and would be looking for a fee in the region of £10m for their prized asset.

Southampton’s Shea Charles is another player Celtic have identified. It is understood the Northern Ireland international could be made available on loan.

The Hoops have also been linked with Venezia midfielder Tanner Tessmann, who is currently at the Olympics with the USA.

Celtic have rejected three bids from Atalanta for O’Riley this summer, with the highest fee being £15m.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers warned clubs yesterday that they will have to match Celtic’s valuation of the Denmark international, before they consider selling.
