    Paulo Bernardo was undergoing a medical examination on Tuesday night before completing his £3.4million move to Celtic


    The Portuguese midfielder is set to join Brendan Rodgers' squad before Sunday’s Premiership flag day against Kilmarnock,
    Celtic’s protracted pursuit of Bernardo will finally come to an end when the 22-year-old becomes the club’s first outfield signing of the summer after two weeks of haggling over cash.


    He arrived in Glasgow on a one-year loan last summer, with a £6m option to buy.

    Reluctant to pay the full amount to complete a permanent deal from Benfica, Celtic renegotiated a fee of £3.4m with a 30 per cent sell-on clause. After renegotiating the personal terms, the midfielder has now agreed terms on a five-year deal.

    Bernardo now joins goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo as the third signing of the summer but seems unlikely to be the last despite frustration over Wolves left back Bueno

    Missed a proper pre-season with us over the sake of a couple hundred grand probably.

    Glad it appears done but we are a tinpot club at times and really have to look at the bigger picture. A proper pre season with the squad is invaluable.

    Which in itself is farcical.

    It's like our transfer negotiations are implemented by a 90 year old tea lady with one land line phone and cataracts, sitting with about 20 scraps of paper that she doesn't remember * they're about.

    For as much as I wasn’t overly impressed with him you can’t argue with 3.4m. At the very minimum you know you will get a shift out him and although he can be quiet we have never seen him have a shocker.

    Hopefully can find that New Year form again consistently as he looked a pler.

    He has the potential to fill O’Riley’s boots. Would be some feat but I think he has it in him to do it. Not that I’m suggesting we don’t sign a replacement for Matt if and when he goes. I think this kid has bundles of ability though. He’s got that languid Rogic/MOR gait and very technical though. Who knows how the cookie will crumble.
