Our form really picked up when he come back to fitness last season. He's not as important as MOR but he's a top player for us and maybe even took some of the pressure of MOR.

If either or both leave we need very good replacements in.

I think O'Riley would be happy enough to stay as long as he feels he has things he can still learn here. Another season under Rodgers and 8+ CL games may be enough. For now.

Hatate on the other hand I think wants to go. He'll be 27 soon and may be thinking if moving to a bigger league doesn't happen now it probably never will.

You really believe the board would give the manager the money to replace him? At this time we don't need the money. We need the player. And we need better players to play alongside him.

If we lose Hatate and O'Reilly (who will be sold, I've no doubt) then our midfield will be decimated. Any players subsequently coming in won't be up to speed with our style of play and possibly not even up to fitness having missed most of our pre season.

We can sell one of the CMs, unfathomable to lose Reo and MOR in the same month . McGregor another year older aswell we really need to be careful .

I'm as frustrated as you regarding incomings. I wouldn't call reo injury prone but he has had a bad run of niggles I also maybe unfairly think if he wants to go and the board stand in his way he will down tools to some degree. So all in all if the money was right I'd sell both him and oriley and give Rodgers 15 mill of the 50 mill to replace them both.

I always remember when we had John McGlynn working for us as a scout when he was between jobs, think it was under John Park, and he spoke about how we had a list of 3 or 4 players for every position being regularly scouted so if one of our top players left we had 3 or 4 options to replace then straight away.

Seems so simple and 100% makes sense for any club but particularly for clubs like ourselves and Brighton who have that type of transfer model in place.

Unfortunately we appear to be a million miles away from that kind of scouting organisation now and the thought of losing any 1st team player is a panic coz we just seem so unprepared to replace them and take an age to do it aswell.

We simply CANNOT lose both Hatate and MoR this season.

Both leaving would be a bullet through the heart of our midfield. We simply won't go out and replace them adequately.
We might manage without one, but not both. Jesus, can you imagine us in the CL without either of them?!

He is in contract till 2028 and just signed a lucrative contract. There is no evidence he would down tools, quite the opposite. The Japanese contingent seem to have a fantastic and honourable ethic and it would be unfair to say otherwise. Unless he specifically states a desire to leave. Which he hasnt.

Why would Rodgers only get £15m of the £50m I suggested fees to spend? Given we have around 9 figures in the bank? It's because we know the board would rather have excessive surplus of cash on the bank than quality players on the park. Losing both players would be devastating for us. Agree he has had a couple of injuries but that doesn't take away the importance he is to the team.

Leicester must defo be in for a CM, in Belgium they reported they are interested in Keita from Antwerp. Same position and similar style!

I think he will go and O’Riley will stay. despite the different development in Japan with them going pro later it’s easy to forget he’s 26 now and never hidden his desire to play in the PL. Although I think he’s still a year away personally after his injuries.

If he wants this move and doesn’t get it I think we get a far worse reaction than from O’Riley.

Brighton are probably one of the best run clubs going.. they are always active as you say replacing star players and managers.. probably helps with the league they are in but you'd like to think it's something we could achieve on a smaller scale.

As for Reo I'm pretty surprised there hasn't been more interest or chat about him leaving... seemed an absolute cert last season he wanted out

Brighton fans have been moaning about their transfer business the last year or so. Saying they didn't replace the players they lost properly. Sounds familiar...

Said it last year when was talk of him moving and it still holds true...

Until he can get beyond 65 mins without blowing out his * he's not ready to move. His passing goes completely out the window from about 60 mins in to the point your wanting him subbed off.

Cracking player on his day but has the fitness levels of paddy mccourt

Agree with you. I think physically he would get found out pretty badly in England, which is his biggest barrier to moving up a level. I think Spain would be his smart move stylistically but he needs to grow out of playing those random completely stray passes once a game which put us in danger.

You are right about seeing him visibly dropping in the second half of any game.

He's actually got decent core strength hence his ability to shield the ball and hold off bigger players pretty well. Physically he'd be ok up there.
