The good thing is, it’s still early in the window so these offers can get laughed out of town. Problem is, if an offer comes in late in the window of say £20m, even though O’Riley is worth more than that, knowing our board, they will probably take it.

Below is from sky but I refuse to provide a link for a murdoch company.
What’s Italian for, “double your offer or stop wasting our time”

Celtic have rejected a third bid from Atalanta for in-demand midfielder Matt O'Riley.
It is understood the improved offer consisted of a £15m initial fee, plus add-ons
Celtic rejected Atalanta's first bid for O'Riley, before turning down an improved offer of £14.3m plus add-ons lodged by the Italian side earlier this week

If they’re struggling to negotiate a fee, lump a player in there.

    I'd * off Atalanta now.

In what world do they think his value has depreciated £5m in the last 6 months?

Coming back, offering us an increase of 2%. They have barely gone over half of the asking price.

Like @apevrak said, start bidding for their players for half the value and keep going back to them offering nominal increases when they're rejected.

I've been saying forever that Celtic can never realize their true potential & become an European giant while competing in the Premiership. With the existing fanbase & EPL type money, the sky's the limit.
I have no idea how it could be achieved & I'm not sure the board has the ambition to make it happen.
Playing top teams on a regular basis makes any team better.

My worry is what encouragement have we given them to make them keep coming back with * bids? Have we indicated we'd take a lot less than 25-30mil?

    Completely agree.

We should be telling them, it's £25m or we're not coming to the table.

As soon as they come back with an extra £100k, we should be copying and pasting that response.

No one knows what our response has been. Nicholson could easily have laughed the guy off the phone and told him to come back when he's being serious.

Looks to me like clubs/agents are trying to cause unrest on the player's part by playing daft games, luckily Matt is a smart bhoy and will know fine well these offers are not getting entertained.

Buyer: Hi, I'm interested in this product you're selling. Would you accept £14.30?

Seller: No sorry, can't do it. The lowest I'm willing to go is £25.

Buyer: Ok great, £15 it is.

The lower the fee, the bigger the signing on fee for the player. It'll be his agent

I'm asking myself why these daft bids with no chance of being accepted are being made public. At the moment, we can tell them where to go; but the moment MOR starts agitating for a move, the power balance changes dramatically. I wonder if they're doing this deliberately to try and bring that about.

So far, we've been quite lucky with O'Riley. We can all think of quite a few of our past stars where this would already have happened.

Edit: I just saw that @Double Dutch already said pretty much the same thing a few posts above.

Assuming he doesn't stay at Celtic, I want him to go to Atletico Madrid. I think that would be a fabulous move for him.

European clubs are always pleading poverty when buying but want top, top dollar when selling. I think they need to be told right at the start of any negotiation not to bother coming back until you are close to the asking price.

In terms of the stature of club it would be.

But he'd flourish more in a side like Atalanta I'd say.
