That's what I'm reading in to it. Hopefully right..

Yeah, but he still might fancy a change of scenery.

 

He may fancy going to a place where, for roughly same/slightly more money, he's considered the standout 1st choice in the position and respected, rather than his feet held to the coals for every mistake...

 

Maybe not from a sporting perspective but he could probably get a better salary elsewhere

 

Celtic will open new contract talks with left-back Greg Taylor in the coming weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

Celtic regard Taylor, 26, as a key player and are working to extend his time at the club with a new and improved offer

Taylor has been at Celtic since 2019-20 and has gone on to make 175 appearances for the Glasgow giants

The 26-year-old is currently Celtic’s only first-team left-back, in the last two seasons alone Taylor has played 91 games for the club, further demonstrating just how badly they are in need of left-back cover

 

Well deserved. Needs to pull the auld socks up though!

His reliability shouldn’t be underestimated. Barely missed a game since Ange came in and not his fault he plays in a position that has been badly neglected for as long as I can remember and even more so since he’s made that position his own.

Does he have his limitations? Absolutely, but he’s been an integral part of our recent success and he definitely deserves a new deal for me.

The Hoops boss confirmed he is in the market for a new left back – but he still wants Greg Taylor tied down on a new deal

Taylor admitted this week talks had stalled with the Scotland squad man while Rodgers remained coy on loan links with Wolves ace Hugo Bueno. But the Hoops boss said: “We obviously want to improve the squad but I think (the new contract) it is important

I don't really want players to be going into that last year where possible. He's one I've said all along, I really want him to stay here. I can't guarantee any player that they're going to play every single game. What I want to build here is a strong squad with his competition at this moment in time.


“Greg doesn't have that and we want to bring that into the squad. But there's absolutely no doubt I've really enjoyed working with him. He's a fantastic player.

“How his career has gone at Celtic, I'm really pleased for him. And someone that we would want to tie down for the longer term. So, hopefully, we can do that.


“I think there was communication maybe towards the end of last season. I also met with Greg's agent to talk through the importance of where I see it, but also to be honest and open where everything is at. It's clear we want to keep him. He's a very important player for us

 

Does sound like he's maybe told Taylor he won't be guaranteed first choice this season, which is maybe why the talks have stalled.

Would love to keep him on but we do need better.

Brendan is absolutely nailing it just now, every wee snippet I see of him talking he seems like he's on a mission.

Good, pleased to read that. I really like Taylor and think he gets a tough time unnecessarily sometimes, but he can't be undisputed first choice.
