Do you just offer the asking price for a house... or do you negotiate?

I'd guess a deal will be done for between £22m to £25m.

I don't doubt it happens with some clubs, but they'd have to be pretty * stupid to let it out into the public domain they are doing it...

They do not need to talk to the player to agree terms, can be done through his agent. Plus Russell Martin has already managed O-Riley at MK Dons and has kept in touch since then as friends. Martin will know already that he is interested.

Certainly not however if i was selling my house and someone had the absolute audacity to try offer 50% then i would tell them every cheap bid from on out i will add 10% to the asking price just for them.

Clearly think we are still in 2013/215 (Wanyama / Van Dijk) era where we would take their cheap offers, We probably at this moment have more disposable income than Southampton do.

Shoes on the other foot, MOR is a valuable asset and will be worth £80m after a season in EPL - We will make sure we get our share of that.

I hate our board, like * despise them but if they sell MOR for anything less than 25 million plus add ons, they should be hung drawn and quartered..

That can be achieved with a sell-on fee. If O'Riley joins Southampton and does well, he'd probably only stay for 2 years.

Let me put it this way, IF we wanted to (we dont) but if we did then we could easily go out and pay £100m cash for a player..Southampton i would be willing to bet do not have those funds (ALL CASH IN BANK) available to them.

On what is your £100m player claim based?

Southampton spent £140m+ on transfer fees in their last Premier League season. Southampton have also recouped significantly more than Celtic in transfer revenue in recent years.

Yeah but you are basing that on the fact that they paid X "last time in EPL" I am talking about right here and right now.

We also have maintained our top flight status and been cashing in on CL & Players.

Says everything when their best player is Joe Aribo ffs lol

    Last PL season spent £140m+

This season they'd already spent circa £60m and will likely go significantly higher in the remaining 5 weeks of the transfer window.

Southampton have gained significantly more from player sales than Celtic. Last season alone they recouped £160m+

That is nonsense. He isn't close to being the best player.

Hearing Portsmouth are offering double what Southampton are offering. Apparently they're the biggest and best run club in their region and are determined to get their man.

Southampton have been * since Le Tiss left, in fairness they were pretty * then too.. Yoyo club that couldn't exist without EPL handouts

Historically Celtic have been a feeder club to Southampton though, that is irrefutable. So I see where @Ted Bates is coming from. I wouldn't really classify them as a yoyo club either, they're in the EPL more often than not.

However, in recent years some of our best players have gone to bigger clubs without using the smaller ones as stepping stones, i.e. Tierney, Frimpong, Dembele. But then you have the likes of Edouard, Christie and Ajer who have also signed for smaller clubs, so it works both ways.

The difference with O'Riley is that his current ability means that we see him as someone who can leap frog the move to a smaller, stepping stone club like Southampton to a club that is significantly bigger. That doesn't mean to say that he won't go to Southampton though - if they stump up the most cash - he might want a move there given his history with Russell Martin.

We attract players on the basis that if they perform well, they'll get a move to a bigger club or a club in a better league. Southampton are no different. There are countless examples over the last 10 years to suggest that if they perform well there then they'll get a move to a top 6 EPL team.

In that sense, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he leaves for Southampton. Just think it would be an underwhelming move for him due to the stature of clubs who have recently shown interest in him. I already think he's better than Southampton, but I thought the same for Van Dijk and probably Wanyama too.

Your last sentence sums it up for me. The reason I think he could very well move to Southampton is because more often than not that's the level our good players move to. Van Dijk, Hooper, Wanyama, Forster, Edouard and Ajer. I thought everyone of those could have done better than the clubs we sold them to before they moved on. I think O'Riley will be the same if he moves to EPL
