Will be looking for another midfielder if/when O'Riley goes according to McGowan

Hmm. Kinda worrying if true, seems like we're going into our 11th season IAR neglecting the CDM position.

Some fans don't want to hear it, but unless we get a proper CDM or at least a robust workhouse in the middle we'll be getting skelped again in Europe. McGregor simply cannot occupy that role sufficiently. It's been shown time and time again.

Think we may still look for a bigger type in the middle. The big Yank ideally but of not him someone similar.

Oh I sort of read that wrong. Really just hope we finally address the CDM position. It feels like every Summer I'm saying the same thing.

We should be if that happens. I want us to sign Bernardo but not as O'Riley's replacement.

Bernardo is done and dusted mate, hopefully other signings will follow, if we can add real quality we could be looking at a very exciting season ahead, i'm optimistic. :50:

I'm really starting to feel optimistic with how the Bhoys have been playing, the two keepers we've brought in, and the potential signings to come.

I had not seen that Bernardo was done and dusted for sure although it seems like that deal has been like that for a while. Either way Bernardo strikes me as exactly the type of player who flourishes under Brendan Rodgers so happy with that. Hope your right about other signings.

Brown was mostly excellent from 2014-2018, he did have a small dip during Deila's final season but outside that he was largely great. We started needing a CDM around the 2019 season when he started to decline.

You could have easily said 5th season and it wouldn't have invalidated your point :67:

For me Bernardo is the type of player we should always be looking at signing, he brings a lot to the team, got the attributes required to make us better.

No more projects, the sole focus for the remainder of this window should be on first team quality, it much needed and long overdue.

I do get where @Lewis Kerr is coming from.

Broony did develop into a good CDM though. But admittedly the last time we qualified out the groups of the UCL we had a big * of a CDM screening the defence in Wanyama.

We had a fair few mares with Brown in that holding role, in Europe over the years.

I think regardless of who we get in it isn't gonna be an instant fix. But we need to add power and physicality to a midfield that is fine, technically.

Quite happily have him back and for the reported fee, it's a bargain.

I imagine we have a couple of players but don't want to spend the money on them until O'Riley leaves which makes sense. I do think he will leave and I can see his replacement actually being a LTB fairly late in the window.

It is a bargain mate, especially in todays market, he's a quality player and will only get better, this is good business from us.

Seen sky sports saying its £3.5m with a 30% sell on. 5 year deal.

    Outstanding bit of business.

Oriley replacement may be a CDM.

Obviously wouldn't be like for like but perhaps Rodgers is looking to change dynamic of the midfield.

Hatate, Mcgregor, Bernardo and Holm all capable of playing as number 8s but would need to collectively pick up the slack in terms of o'rileys goals and assists but having a proper defensive midfielder in there may give them the freedom to push forward more.

Personally would love to see Mcgregor back in a more attacking role
