Wonder why the talks stalled... I doubt he's going to get a better deal elsewhere unless the board have proper * with his wages with a low ball offer..

Seems kinda like he says it himself in the quotes...

He feels these are his prime year's, and he wants a contract to match that, and he wants to be sure he'll play. We're not gonna guarantee him matches, especially if we're looking at strengthening the position, and I doubt we're going to jack his wages upward for the same reason.

I'd imagine it'll happen, but later in the window as the position sorts itself out.

If he leaves here, I can't see him going anywhere better than a mid-table English Championship team like Turnbull. Just far too many limitations.

Think he's undervalued at times, the wee man is a winner..

Yes, we're crying out for a first choice LB.. but at only 26 I'd give him a 3 year deal with a 4th option..

Is he going to be happy being second choice as realistically as all he should be. From reading someone else’s post Greg wants guaranteed game time and a wage to reflect.

I'd keep him but don't think he'd be happy as second fiddle.

I'm sure he's aware enough to realise there's always competition for places here. No player get guaranteed game time in a contract..

Depends on what we've offered I guess too.

I hope a deal gets done, the lack of LB links are a worry though..

Like everyone else i hope we eventually find a decent LB and offer second place to a youth player.

I would keep him and you can't fault his effort. He's just not our every game LB.

Rodgers ran Tierney into the ground and same with Taylor. Get a first choice LB in and have Taylor handy to get some game time.

Like most folks I like Taylor and ye can't question his workrate or commitment but we do need better as 1st choice especially for Europe and preferably with a wee bit more height to stop the long diagonals targetting our left back.

Absolutely need to offer him a new contract. He'd be an excellent back up, whether that is something he is seeing and doesn't like the look of for his own career, is very probable.

However, I can't see him moving away if there is a chance of staying here, on good money at a club like this. Pretty sure we will look to tie him to a new deal. Wouldn't be against a 3/4 year deal, with a further option. It's up to him to show he is better than any LB we bring in. He's done it with 2 already.

That being said, he may look at Turnbull and see an opportunity to make a some really good cash down south. Turnbull raking in £20k a week at * Cardiff. Can imagine he would get a better move than that, with higher wages being offered.

Time will tell, I guess. Personally, I'd like to see him remain part of the squad for the next few years. He has his limitations but I think he can still be a really valued member of the squad.

I like Taylor's commitment and never say die attitude - he often gets pelters but always seems to come back stronger and a better player for it.

Granted, he is no Tierney but he has heart and a hunger to win.

I hope he stays as he has been a good servant and will be excellent back up to whoever comes in and rightly or wrongly I think we need someone with a bit more height and presence in that role.

I would be all for punting him right now, if it wasn't for our shambolic recruitment. Just sick to death of him getting done at the back post and stifling the life out of our attacks. Sometimes, when we break the press and he gets possession, his first instinct is to look back and then stop and pass back to Scales and then opposition can reset.
He is what he is and is never going to improve.
Unbelievable that we have not strengthened this position, surely there is a decent LB somewhere that can improve on GT for reasonable coin.

This will never happen but see if Taylor was looking for high money, I would have brought in a first team ready left back and sold him this summer and promote Anderson to back up left back.

    The pros:

    - You still keep the same number of Scottish trained players in your squad.
    - You keep an academy player by giving him game time and we need to be doing that
    - if we sign well at left back you have the clear route same as the goalkeepers of when they move on in a year or two you have a ready made replacement in Anderson to step in.

    Negatives

    - there is a gamble that Anderson isn’t ready but there is only one way to find out.
    - There’s no guarantee the new left backs a success.

If you asked me why I would take that gamble, it’s because I think our left back slot has been a glaring weakness in our team since Tierney left. Teams at all levels that we play target us there. So whatever way you look at it we need better players there.

In addition, we moan about losing our top academy players, I think Anderson is right up there in terms of footballing abilities compared to the others. The benchmark isn’t high but our options to fill home grown quotas for Europe aren’t great just now in terms of buying players or wha we have produced recently. This feels like a chance to address this.

I actually really like him despite his obvious limitations, but this is definitely the best team he’ll play for.

I don’t even mean biggest club, as with most players that leave us, they rarely go on to bigger clubs, I mean the best team.

Frimpong went to Leverkusen for example who are a tiny club compared to us but would pump us silly.

No team wanting Taylor as their starting left back would beat us I wouldn’t imagine.

There is no argument, it’s not debatable. He and Scales should never be first pick for a club of our size and wealth.

He's in our top 3 left backs of the past 20 years, behind Izzy and KT.
