I think he is complete *. Can't even see the potential in him at all.

I think he's looked decent in the few times I've seen him.. looks tidy on the ball and strong in the tackle.. of all the dross we've signed on the cheap in the last few windows I think he might actually come good.. more hope than anything ha

I actually like the look of him too. Think we had our pants pulled down over the price as he's not ready for the first 11, but I think there's a player in there.

As the manager has stated about upping his game maybe its an attitude or physical problem of getting used to Scottish football, I'm hoping it's the lateral and he can kick on..

Looked good in the friendly the other night, hopefully he can make an impact in the 1st team this year if we can't sort out a right good quality side for a loan.

In all honesty how much game time did he get last season? Not enough and that’s my point.

Do you honestly see him getting more this season? Or enough that will help him develop? He needs to be playing week in and week out.

If he can’t get that here I would rather loan him and make sure we get enough games under his belt.

Playing a bit part is going to hinder his development, we both know it.

I suspect many will be glad to have him in the squad when the transfer window shuts.

Yes but we also need 6 players competing for those 3 positions. Due to our refusal to sign players we don't have the depth to be loaning him out.

He didn't get minutes last year due to not working hard enough. So as I said it's up to get the minutes he needs.

His game time is in turn what doesn't help him or other fringe/youth players.

Take his game time (13 appearances across all comps. 350mins circa) and take guys like Kwon in the first half etc and give all that game time to someone like Kelly, how much more progress would Kelly have made?
Because, no offence to Holm, he never made any real impact in any of his appearances so I don't believe having played Kelly more would at all have changed out outcomes for a negative.

Can flip that and say, give Holm all the minutes of of the other guys and likewise he would have came on a lot more by now.

Absolutely, that’s why over the years we have ruined players progress from our youth side and other young players because they need to be playing to help them develop.

He never got more minutes cause he couldn’t get into the side either.

Bernardo comes back, and we sign another midfielder then where does he stand? In all honestly?

Clearly Rodgers has said he needs to pull his finger out and getting game time will help him, that’s a fact.

But let’s be totally honest he’s not getting at Celtic this season.

like I said before we sign Bernado on a permanent deal we have more than 6 players in the middle of the park.

McGregor, Hatate, O'Rielly, Bernardo, Iwata, Holm Kelly, Kwon, McCarthy, Kelly - main three are obvious.
You've then 7 others competing for backup.
Okay we can completely discount McCarthy at this stage. That's 6 others competing for the backup trio position.

If we say Bernardo and Iwata are the furthest along and likely to get on as subs, that's leaving 4 players who we would all love to develop - fighting for about 5 minutes every second game.
Neither of them are gonna get adequate time at all.

Even get rid of Kwon, 3 of them still fighting it out for those positions and it's a struggle.

McGregor, Hatate, O'Rielly, Bernardo(if he ever signs), Iwata, Holm Kelly, Kwon, McCarthy as our midfield options is absolutely depressing..

Calmac: getting on and needs help(can't play every single game again)
MOR: will be gone by windows end
Hatate: for me he is way too inconsistent and picking up injuries
Bernardo: hardly featured last 6 months but definitely talented, still not signed.
    Iwata: back up at best
Holm: not ready by sounds of it (BR)
Kwon: done OK for St Mirren last season, back up at best
Kelly: young learning his trade, again back up
McCarthy: probably one of the worst signing we have ever made

That's grim reading.. OK if Calmac, Hatate, MOR or Bernardo or on it 100% it's a decent midfield but that didn't happen very often last season..quite often it just didn't click, something just wasn't right.

Imagine if any 2 of Calmac, Hatate or Bernardo(if he signs) are injured at the same time.. Christ. I didn't include MOR because it's more than likely if not certainly hes away.

100% all of that and this is the worry.

It's not just midfield, it's defence and the wings (and even the backup keepers now), need a complete overhaul. The level of deadwood and fringe players that are clearly not good enough or going to get the game time to help them and thus help us, is unreal.

Individually, guys like Holm do look decent but they massively need more game time and more help to bring them on. Be that specialised coaches or simply better players to play with and help work through games and stuff.

The main trio of McGregor, Hatate and O'Rielly, on their games are hands down a trio as good as we've seen in a very long time in the middle of the park. But the depth beyond them is lacking.
I'll take Bernardo as backup and I'd take Iwata and or Holm as a second rotation. But that third backup choice needs to be of a higher level to actually challenge the first trio, not just be backup.
After that 6, the rest can be discarded for me. With one youth talent stepping it up to perhaps take over from Holm - depending on how the hierarchy works the following season (be it that one of the first moves on and Holm has stepped up to the be the starting trio, or moved on completely).

The fact we have Kwon and McCarthy also around, now with Kelly and Lawal names in the mix, it's just madness how much of a fringe quality we actually have at the club.

Without going in to it all again, I'll just name the defenders to hopefully show the same.
CCV, Scales, Nawrocki, Lagerbeilke, Welsh, Kobi, Murray - it's too many.

As for the fear of injuries @thailandceltic to add to the above, if we had an injury to two of the starting trio, it's why the quality of that third one in my backup trio needs to be on a par with them, just to step in, no issues. The extra option of surprise more game time to a Holm is then good and not an emergency scare issue.

He never got minutes bcoz he wasn't doing enough. It's why Rodgers has called him out on it.

We loan him out we need to sign 3 midfielders just to have enough depth. It's not happening. It's took us 2 months to nearly sign 1
