GT is a decent back up. We 100% need better. The reason he was so bad last season is because teams were targeting him especially his height..

I expect an Owen Beck type of signing: Upcoming player who'll battle it out with Taylor for 1st choice. We were reportedly interested in Beck in January.

Really not liking this chat about someone coming in to compete with Taylor. We 100% need a first choice left back. I'd have GT as backup for a year, then let him go when Frame and Anderson are ready.

Don't understand that logic at all either. Frame can compete with Taylor for backup LB, we need a definite upgrade. Ever since the Tiago Araujo & Owen Beck talk ended months ago I've not seen us linked with anyone else.

I think we thought we were getting Beck and then Klopp played him in a game and we couldn't (if I remember right)..

Bernabei is out the door and Taylor was also injured for a bit last season to the point there was calls for our only backup right back to be starting games on the left..

We'll without doubt sign one in my opinion. Might be a loan/loan to buy and for what it's worth I don't want Beck or someone to just compete with Taylor. I want a significant improvement in that department..

I would have thought that if we were targeting Beck, it would have been done by now. There would have been some noise from down south about our interest in him, too.

Maybe I don't see it, but taylors better than many seem to portray. Had a wobbly start under rodgers then he let him invert again and he was back to being great for alot of spells over the season. The weakest point of our entire back line is scales. Not because he can't defend, he just can't bring the ball out. Teams have figured that out and he * it when they all back off and try cover a man instead. I however have a feeling rodgers will persist with him.

I think you've just explained why we need a new starting LB; Rodgers doesn't want to play with an inverted LB, but he has to because he's only got Taylor.

Well if he doesn't sign another left back then surely that means he does want to play with an inverted left back? Unless he personally told you ofcourse.

I'd be flabbergasted if we don't sign a new LB. And I'm just going by what happened last season. Brendan started off playing Taylor as a traditional LB, but switched him to inverted when it wasn't working. Makes me think that tactically Brendan prefers a LB that can go on the outside and get crosses in. Remember he does like his wingers to cut inside too a la Scot Sinclair and Paddy Roberts.

The standards are shocking if people want a left back to compete with Taylor. Undoubtedly need an upgrade on Taylor, surely they’re working in silence on bringing in a good left back

Obviously wouldn't say no to an upgrade but the wee man deserves more respect than he gets. The height thing is overblown imo he's not much smaller than a lot of other players, players where their height is never even mentioned.

If he's getting 'targetted' like everyone always goes on about there's ways round it, mainly having better positioning and timing of tackles. These things can and will be worked on so am happy for him to still be in and around the first team given his leadership qualities and vision for a forward pass.

I agree we need another. I just think taylor gets a bad rep when he's actually very good. It'd be great having a traditional left back, then when things are not working switch it up with taylor inverted etc. Fact we don't have a backup yet means imo we will sign one. Signings take a while with rodgers as I think he would rather wait for his first target than do an ange and move on quick

I canny believe people are absolutely adamant that we will sign a left back. We just went the second half of last season with only one which was scandalous, but not overly surprising. So after that, I’m not expecting anything. You’d like to think we will sign one as it would be beyond stupid not to, but I wouldn’t be putting my mortgage on it either. The last two transfer windows means nothing is off limits.

It will also be scandalous if we do sign a left back who isn’t an upgrade on Taylor.

I like Taylor, but we definitely need an upgrade. His height is only part of the problem, the much bigger issue is his lack of pace. That wasn't as big a deal when playing the inverted full back role under Ange, but playing as a more typical overlapping full back that Rodgers prefers shows it up badly. That catches him out far more than lack of height.

I wouldn't say he's very good, but I also wouldn't say he's rubbish. I think he's a decent inverted fullback, but I don't think that's something we need in the squad.

Yeah the lack of overlap and swinging crosses in is more of an issue, think that's something we lack badly. AJ started doing it more towards end of last season and it's something I want to see more of.

That said, GT definitely still has a part to play and bombing him out completely would be unfair imo.

Keeper wise with Both the younger keeper and Kasper yes.

Other positions no, because we needed them filled anyway and still need them to come back.

Doesn’t address the other problematic areas we need to address either so over all squad wise I would say no.
