That excuse dosen't cut the mustard anymore, last season Rodgers kept going on about the need for quality, but we still brought in projects. The bottom line is that if we had a recruitment team worth their salt we wouldn't be in this position with the new season just a fortnight away, it's just not good enough.

It's been well known for a while now that certain areas of the team badly need strengthened, Rodgers said after the last window that we could've been braver in our recruitment, that's a manager having a go at the Board for lack of ambition and forward thinking.

Don’t think anyone has any faith in the board in the transfer market, but what about our scouts? How many transfer windows have the had to get a better left back than Greg Taylor for * sake!

It will say a lot about our ambitions if GT is still our first choice LB this season. The guy is an exemplary back up, but consistently the weak link in Europe and domestically against the 'better' sides. Targeted time and time again.

Surely it isn't that difficult to get a left-sided version of AJ? That isn't to say he doesn't have his own weaknesses, ideally we'd get someone who is better on the ball and offers more going forward. But a physical presence down that side would do wonders for us.

I'd like us to get someone better than AJ for the other side tbh.

Mate, every single football club will try and do things 'on the cheap'. Every single club negotiates. Even PSG are trying to get the best deal possible for their targets.

Celtic trying to get the best deals possible is based on two current transfers is making some fans think we are deliberately being difficult for the sake of it. The fact we have tried to reduce the fee for Bernardo, which I think a lot of the fan base agreed with and now trying to get the best deal we can for Idah.

There's a lot of * measuring with Norwich at the minute. They’re clearly spinning a narrative that he’s a big part of their plans so that it looks like their value is justified. I don’t want to be waiting forever for Idah and I certainly don’t want it to be dragging into August. The manager clearly wants him so the club need to make a choice.

    1. Wait and hope their patience pays off, where they agree a fee we presume to be acceptable.
    2. Move away from the deal, with our final offer on the table and set up a deadline for them to accept or we move on, risking * off Rodgers by failing to bring in the guy he wants.
    3. Pay them over and above what we value him at, to get him in the door.

Personally, I don’t think we can or should pick option 3. I like Idah and I want him to come back but there needs to be a balancing act between buying a player with potential and overpaying for the sake of over paying. There are deals out there to be explored if we can’t get Idah over the line and the same goes for Bernardo.

I never said the results matter.

But going into these games with one striker is a farce. If Kyogo gets injured we’re snookered for the start of the season.

Not disagreeing but there's no way the club will consider that a priority.

I don't think you're being quite fair there, mate. It wasn't a "what if" hypothetical. It was a device I was using to illustrate exactly where we are at this point in time.

It's like if we're climbing a mountain and we reach base camp and someone says, "Where are all the people that doubted we'd make the top of the mountain? Gone awfy quiet, haven't they?" I might turn round and point out that if we ended the mountain climbing here, we'd have failed miserably. Not because I thought there was any chance we would turn round now or because I doubted that we would keep going; rather but to illustrate that we haven't got anywhere much yet and it's far too early to be counting chickens (this last bit because I love a good mixed metaphor ha ha)

Well, it's exactly like that with our signings this summer.

Mate that makes too much sense. 1 fit striker with the season a couple of weeks away is poor mismanagement at best. Go's forbid anything happens to him.

Mate, I don't want to start all that quoting posts as it looks like criticism of the poster and often leads to arguments and I don't disrespect the people involved, I just think they're wrong on this particular issue. The posts are there. You won't have to go back very far to find them.

You know, I never really rated him until the cup final; but that game changed my view of him. There was a point where they were bullying us and we were wilting and he was the one guy that wasn't having it and stood up to be counted. I think if we had a bit more fight in other areas of the team, I'd still see it the same way as you; but at the moment, we're physically weak without him and I'd love someone like him on the other side. Taylor in particular was being pushed around like a boy playing against men.

I still see things the same way TBH; but I can understand why the majority of people disagree with me on those 2 issues. I don't think I'm in a minority when it comes to our recruitment, though. You yourself seem to see the recruitment issue exactly the same thing as me judging by your earlier post.

I'm being totally fair, I leave all the whiners to get on with it and don't respond to them anymore. I do my happy clapping and leave them to do their doom-saying if that's what makes them happy. The post ye responed to was reply to someone else and just generally on the points he made btw I never mentioned you at all.

100%, mate. I'd really like to get Idah; but if we can't do a deal, let's move on quickly and get someone else. I don't want us to turn this into an "Eddie Howe" saga.

I think the post you responded to was talking about my post, though. I'm not calling you a happy clapper and I'm not currently whining (although I have been known to whine on occasion); our recruitment has simply been very poor for 3 full windows now and it has been very poor so far this summer. I'm stating that as an observation not a whine (it will turn into a whine if the situation isn't remedied by the time the window closes).

I agree that there is still plenty of time; what worries me is that I have heard nothing about any improvements to our recruitment team and our footballing structure. For me, there's very little evidence that we don't want to spend the money to get good players in and plenty of evidence that we do want to spend it but simply haven't (for 3 and a half windows now) been able to spend it effectively.

The way it's going we are gonna need:

    ST
    Winger
CB (2 imo but probably only 1)
    LB
    CM (2 imo)

To be done in August. So 4 weeks. I'd be very pleasantly surprised if any of them come in before rhe back end of next week.

Pish tbh. The lack of LB rumours is very very scary.
