Can see this dragging out til close to deadline day and Norwich will bring their valuation down when nobody but us are in for him. We should however be in the market for an alternative rather than wait around for him, even if he is Brendan's preferred choice.

 

Why haven't we just moved on to at least identify & speak to another forward? If we could/can get someone else even at 8/9m then move on.

Just call Norwichs bluff.

 

They won't though their manager has said (bluff or not) he will be a "valuable player this season" as I have said umpteen times time to move on

 

But if the player wants the move at some point he will tell the manager that and the last thing a manager wants is an unhappy player who wants away.

Have no issue with the Sinisalo deal or the plan for gk department. It's just the fact it's still the only official deal we have done by the middle of July I'm * off with.

Bernardo deal should have been relatively easy to conclude given all the circumstances but it's taken best part of 5 weeks. My worry is if it takes us that long to do the easy deals with clubs willing to sell and players wanting to be here then how long are the difficult deals going to take to wrap up?

 

BR likes to wait on his top targets. Even if that means waiting until the end of the window. Ange on the other hand liked to move on quickly to the next if was taken too long

He's more patient than most of us then. Altho he doesn't have a choice when our strategy is to offer half the value of the player and then sit about for weeks on end hoping that our lowball offer appreciates in value and the selling club suddenly changes their mind. Hasn't worked before but * loves a trier eh Peter?

The concern is does he have back up options this time if he doesn't get them or is it back to the same dross he's been served up by the recruitment team that he doesn't rate?

Probably its the haggling between the clubs over how much the sell on clause will be worth. If the sale price is reduced Benfica will likely want a higher sell on clause then the 30% of any profit that they had when we bought Jota from them.

 

At the point now I don't care whether he signs or not.

Revisit in January if needs be, but Celtic can't use their position and relative fortunes to source talent like Idah on global scale then Rodgers is as well as just playing pretend and launching football manager to have an idea of what a semi functional scouting system could look like.

 

We shouldnt be leaving it so long to sign him though.
If we were close to putting in a bid that would get Norwich’s attention, they would have pulled him from the squad altogether.

at the moment we are far apart but its still not good strategy from us. He should have been on the plane to the USA and we should be working on the next target.

 

I dont trust that the recruitment department have alternatives that are of an equal or better quality to Idah.

 

I think he wants the move and I think he'll be our player. Hopefully get him signed sooner rather than later.

Theres much better out there for 5-6m quid. Not good enough to be waiting all summer for.

 

Exactly my thinking.

If Rodgers badly wants him, just make the last bid offer and set a deadline.
Otherwise Rodgers and the club need to move on.

Club needs to do some work and call upon the scouts (no laughing) and Rodgers needs to accept.

I think Rodgers does want him pretty badly, so much so I can see this going on a while but find it difficult to see us not getting him.

I just think for 6 million quid there’s a lot more bang for your buck out there.

 

100% you can find someone better than Idah for 6m quid. No doubt at all.
But that would require recruitment and scouts doing their job. We know that story all too well.
