Seems like this is what we've actually done. There may yet be hope.

It comes as the club are also close to a deal for Kasper Schmeichel who is to have his own tests done on Tuesday before jetting into Glasgow to sort the finer details

The Danish international enjoyed a spell with Anderlecht last season but has been available on a free transfer which prompted Rodgers to act quickly to secure the goalie, 37, he worked with at Leicester City.

I'm sure he'll do a job but I do find it worrying we've had about 7 months to replace Joe Hart and we didn't scout a good young replacement.

Kasper Schmeichel will very soon be presented as the new goalkeeper in the Scottish club Celtic.

As Tipsbladet has been able to lift the veil for the past few days, the change is underway, and only the very last formalities are needed before 37-year-old Kasper Schmeichel can call himself the new Celtic keeper.

Here he will replace the English veteran Joe Hart, who has retired, and that will be the Dane's biggest challenge in Scotland.

Former Manchester United player Paul Parker thinks so.

Joe Hart is very much loved at Celtic. The biggest problem for Schmeichel will be taking over from Hart - the Celtic fans really love him, says Paul Parker to Tipsbladet.

The Englishman also warns of another significant factor in Scottish football.

    - The hardest thing for Schmeichel may very well be Celtic's away games. There are a lot of artificial grass pitches in Scotland because it is a cheaper solution for the clubs. It will be a big challenge.

    - But when he steps into Celtic Park, it won't affect him in the least, because from the time he was a child he experienced a stadium like Old Trafford. He has also won an English championship and an FA Cup trophy, so it won't be a theme at all, says Paul Parker.

Celtic won the Scottish Championship last season ahead of arch-rivals Rangers FC.

What a signing btw. I know people were worried with the age etc but I hope with Sinisalo most likely coming in it’s putting peoples mind at ease. Smashing keeper on his day and still able to cut it at the highest level. Will provide great experience in big games for us this season.

Seems to be an opinion that he's a bit slower on getting down to shots now. And then the point above about artificial pitches.

Only killie now ain't it? For one more season. I think we could see a fair bit of rotation between the keepers.

The more it sinks in the more I think it's the absolute perfect signing to replace big Joe. Could not have worked out better man.

Having Sinisalo there as a safety net aswell basically if Kasper was a little off but he’s a top class keeper I think he will be class for us. Can manage him much better with Sinisalo as atleast we have a quality back up to rotate with. Another big presence at the back will be great for the lads

    Same was said about Hart..

If you look at both, Schmeichel has actually been playing at a higher level than Hart was before coming here. Hart barely played for 2/3 year and was still a success..

Schmeichel's been a regular for his club in Belgium and for Denmark as number 1 at big tournaments..

He's also much better with his distribution..

I have no worries about him for us domestically at the very least. We'll have lot of the ball naturally and I think he's probably more agile, quicker off his line and with his reflexes than Hart. Hart was a good signing and even better leader but he was so so slow on the deck, coming off his line and getting down to shots at times. Stood up tall down the stretch last season bit u expect Schmeichel to be a better fit for us for now..

    Time will tell mate.

I've always rated schmeichel but no idea how he's faired since leaving England. Can only go off of what people who have watched him recently are saying.

I do agree he should be more than capable domestically. And he's a character which is a bonus.

For me it's more watching him at the Euros. He looked fine to me. They had Leicester's first choice keeper who played 44 times for them in getting back up to the Premier league and another first choice keeper in the Bundesliga at Union and still kept both out..

Would be interesting to get a wee montage of his time at the Euros actually all in..

Was first choice for Anderlecht, who wanted to keep him..

Hart was literally flopping in Italy, Burnley and dropped and backup at Spurs..

Why are we even getting into a comparitive debate over Schmeichel v Hart?

Hart was a decent keeper for us, but he's gone now.

Schmeichel is the here and now, and the other laddie is the future!

If you keep looking backwards, you'll never see what's ahead.
