This is exactly what we have all wanted. An older, experienced Goalkeeper to come in for the next year or two and a clear plan to address the short term thinking of someone like Schmeichal.

Would be absolutely delighted with this.

 

A lot happier with Schmeichel coming in if we sign this lad too.

 

Exactly what I was hoping for when the Schmeichel news broke.

If we get this done then fair play Celtic. Proper forward thinking.

How do we get this guy game time this season?

 

Same way other clubs do with fringe players, cup games and maybe home league fixtures against bottom table teams. Would be very encouraging if the club bring him in with schmeichel

 

We play about 100 games a season. Cup games for a start perhaps.

 

Yeah. Also we got lucky with Hart never being injured.

 

Easier said than done with goalkeepers though isnt it?

Plot twist, Sinisalo is actually coming in to start with KS being the experienced backup.

You just rest Schmeichel and play him.

This isn’t Siegrist or Bain that you dread/risk playing. He’s hopefully good enough to cover and get better.

 

Yeah maybe with a backup keeper of bains calibre but if it’s a good back up keeper should be no problem. and my thinking was if we get Schmeichel on the two year deal or opt for the second year, we will have Schmeichel first choice with Sinisalo as back up this year, then next year Schmeichel will be the experienced back up to Sinisalo for his final year with us. Let’s see if he signs first though

We should (and could have before now) play fringe players in league cup/early Scottish Cup round fixtures to get them experience and game time. Rotating at home after Euro games also should be done more often.

Great news, hopefully get young Josh Clarke back out on loan again. Looking like we're really going for it like I suspected, be great to get everyone back believing again. Keep it coming Celtic.

 

Offt, surely we’re not actually planning ahead for once!?

 

This is the sort of forward planning that we’ve been crying out for, a genuine succession plan.

While Schmeichel would obviously be first choice in the majority of domestic games and in Europe, you could easily give Sinisalo the cups and the odd league game as well. Even if it’s ultimately less than the 40+ games he played at Exeter, you could still probably get him a decent number of games across the season between competitions and all the while he’s hopefully benefiting from the coaching going on behind the scenes.
