Looks like this is a goer then. I’m disappointed but I acknowledge he’ll probably do a job for us.

The one and only thing against him is his age, if there’s assurances from him he’s still got a couple years left in him then it is a literal no brainer.

Arguably the most experienced leader in his position you could get in world football. It would be a coup. Buys you a season or 2 to sort out the position long term.

Think that's a fair statement. Not a bad keeper at all but would have liked to see us bring a younger GK in.

We may still bring in a younger keeper as well as bringing in kasper

and are in advanced talks with Denmark international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel over a two-year deal.

Celtic are also in the market for a replacement for Joe Hart, with discussions taking place with 37-year-old Schmeichel

A free agent after leaving Anderlecht, the son of Manchester United legend Peter was Rodgers’ No1 at Leicester City. He also spent time in Scotland with Falkirk early in his career. He was keen to focus on Euro 2024 with the Danes, with talks placed on ice until the end of the tournament

Could potentially be wishful thinking, but part of me wonders if signing someone with a bit of a higher profile like Schmeicel will improve our chances of getting a few better players … we need to get a move on now.

Provided we don’t offer them buttons of course.

I sense peope are projecting their negative view of our general scouting and spending policy on this particular transfer.

Despite his age, he is still capable of playing at the top level, just back from playing in a good team at the euros, and brings a ton of experience. He's actually a good replacement for Hart beyond being a very good keeper.

I get our transfer strategy is * and we aren't spending money like we should. It also feels like a Rodgers deal rather than anything coming from our scouting department. But I feel if we had made a few top signing already, splashed the cash, and then announced Schmeichel was signing, fans would be much happier at the idea of having the Danish international keeper and captain signing for us.

This is probably true to an extent. If we had spent a bit of money already it wouldn't be so bad.

Some are looking at this as our first signing that took so long and now thinking that cheap is how we are going forward.

I was as vocal as anyone regarding the lack of spending last summer. However I think this is a really good bit of business. We just need to get money spent on other positions such as left back, centre half and right wing.

I’ve seen the Saudi thing being reported and the end of the article they have chucked Anderlecht in at the end. Which has me thinking is it to big it up he’s not gone back when it wasn’t an option.

or maybe I’m be skeptical due to our business model.

Another damming indictment of our recruitment set up.

If we had any sort of ambition, our transfer window would look something like this:

    GK - £5m
    LB - £5m - £10m
    CB - £6m - £8m
    CDM - £7m - £12m
    RW - £5m - £8m
    ST - £5m - £7m

That's £50 million spent at the maximum. All would be immediate improvements on our current first team or competitive substitutes (ST). All very doable and achievable, but we know what will happen.
