He is safe hands and a character but t does seem to show a lack of imagination by the club, it will be interesting to see what wages he is on. Then it is back to square one next May.

GK with bags of experience signed for nothing, good business and allows Lawwell to spend loads on outfield players(no laughing down the back)

We signed a guy from spurs who was no where near the first team and had hardly played for several seasons who then went on to become a club icon

If this is true we’re signing an international no 1 who ain’t coming here for a final payday

I think this is a really good sensible choice

Yeah, this guy wants to be number 1 and go out winning trophies and playing Champions league. If he wanted an easy pay day he'd be taken as a back up at a PL Club or go to Saudi.

Charismatic, cloakroom leader, experienced, class on penalties, still performing at a good level. Big yes for me. Signing a young (26yo) international GK 4 years ago turned out to be a complete fiasco so at this point I don't mind if it's short term

Taken in isolation, I’m happy with this.

Huge personality and still a good goalie who will do well for us.

Keepers can play until they are 40 as long as they avoid injuries.

The problem will come if he picks up knocks. The current back ups don’t bear thinking about in big games.

Also just proves a lot of people right when it’s argued we have no real structure or process to our recruitment.

Schmeichel currently is a much better keeper than Joe….and some of his passes out his hands at the euros were incredible. He’ll suit our fast attack from the keeper perfectly. Get him in Brendan

I agree with everyone saying he's a good keeper (once very good) and he brings a lot to a squad etc.

But the bigger picture for me is this shows, as stated by many, that our football structure is *. 7 months we've known about Hart retiring and we clearly haven't been prepared. Noone can convince me otherwise.

It just adds more to my concern about what the rest of the window has in store tbh. We really need to spend on good quality but I've no clue how we are identifying players.

In isolation I like Schmeichel and always have. But he's an ex player of Rodgers and a friend of Joe Harts. Alan Mcinally in the record 6 hours before this breaks talking about how he was texting Peter Schmeichel asking about his son to celtic. It doesn't take a genius to work out how we've approached this.

The fact we may only get 2 years out him at best doesn't overly concern me though. Hypothetically if we got in a good younger keeper they'd be off in that time if not sooner. Huns may still struggle to keep Butland longer than 12 months for example and he's 32. Also see 41 year old pepe playing every minute for Portugal at a euros. If he's fit enough still which he clearly must be, it doesn't worry me.

I still feel we need to bring in a young GK with the view to taking over though. That really wouldn't be too hard to do and would be forward thinking though...ha.

Or maybe conspiracy theorists are just that?

Rumours for months we was signing a Danish keeper but ignored.

I said the keeper hasn't been signed because of the Euros. Turns out he's been palying up till the other week. Include holidays and suddenly the signings close. This one's been in the works for months not just yesterday. Will be the same for other signings. They'll start happening now.

Big buffon was the best keeper in the world into his 40s. Retired finally at 45 and still better than most. Keepers last.

Part of me is thinking (perhaps naïvely) that if Jensen and Livakovic were our top 2 targets and we failed to get them in, then perhaps Schmeichel is a short term option that we've resorted to.

If the rumours are true we had bids knocked back for those two so do we then get a young keeper who's our third or fourth choice or get a guy in who is proven at top level that can do a job for a season or two until we identify another target of the standard of those two.

Thats me playing devil's advocate slightly as I'm more inclined to think it's as you described unplanned chaos rather than a strategic approach.

It's obviously a short term move but he's a very good keeper. Not every signing has to be a project or an expensive signing (We wish). I would be happy with him signing.

On the face of it, it's a decent move.

Delve a little deeper, it's a * disgrace. The club have known about the impending retirement of Hart for MONTHS, in fact, a proper club would've had a contingency in place going into Harts LAST YEAR of contract, preparing and scouting for a long term replacement.
We've sprung for a freebie, released by his last two clubs, and who we obviously has previous links to staff.

Same old *.... Different day. "Do we know him? Sign him up".

We are absolute * MESS in terms of player acquisition. Not surprising, when our head European scout got the job because of his daddy, and had all the attributes required honed by managing a * golf shop.

Here we are again, relying on a manager to do our player recruitment, only this managers previous track record is far from stellar.

We should be * LIVID about this signing, not the player himself, but the circumstances, as it indicates the complete * show of a window we're in for.
The biggest and richest team in the country, and the ONLY team in the country who has not signed a player, about to break it's duck with a 37 year old free transfer.

In fairness Bernardo looks done and Idah will be signed, two players that don't need bedding in..

I agree out recruitment is a shambles but KS is a proven GK that's just performed well at the Euros, it's not a total disaster... YET

Bit uninspiring, can see why folk would be unhappy and does look like lazy recruitment, or lack of, and kicking the can down the road but similarities to Hart and he worked out well for us. Time will tell I guess.
