He'll be great for us, i know it's short termism but he brings a wealth of experience.

Think its a no brainer personally. Most of what we miss with hart is experience and leadership. Schmeichel has that in abundance. Celtic a very difficult club for a young keeper to develop and perform. This a much safer option.

    Positives:

    - Was a proper top class goalkeeper not that long ago.

    - Massive leadership qualities, should fill the Hart void in that respect

    Negatives:

    - He was finished when Leicester let him go. He was at fault for a lot of goals in his last season at Leicester. In the new stats era, they looked into the underlying stats and to the surprise of a lot of people decided to punt him.

    - 37 years old. We will need to look for a new keeper next season or the year after.

Gives me a similar feeling to when we first signed Hart. Disappointment, soon followed by excitement that maybe that excellent keeper is still in there somewhere. Hopefully he does the business.

No idea about his hips or any other injury concerns. Why did Nice let him go by mutual consent? Why did Anderlecht not keep him?

With regards signing a younger guy to transition into taking over from him in a year or two...could it be argued that either of the two boys who've started re season with us have a chance of doing it?

If we're talking pathways and promoting youth, surely this has to be the plan? Not sure if they're seen as being close to the level though, so would like to hear Rodgers' thoughts on it.

Age really isn't an indicator of anything apart from experience and injuries , quite a few examples out there , so I'd take him considering that.

Typical lazy Brendan signing. We've had 6 months bare minimum to get a replacement for Joe in and we end up with yet another player Brendan has worked with previously. If he's being brought in as a back up keeper to someone younger, I'd be ok with that if we can punt Bain and Siegrist. But there's no chance he's coming here to be a back up. Just setting ourselves up to be in exactly the same position next summer. Absolutely pointless signing.

Reeks of a scouting system that doesn't exist.

I think we can get one season out of him, but he's not the goalie he was and he's declining.

Do we need a third keeper? What's wrong with Clarke? Bar the covid season debacle with hazard when was the last time we went anywhere close to utilizing the third choice keeper?

He's still an excellent keeper with bags of experience and he'll not cost us much. As long as we bring in a younger, long-term solution within the next two windows we'll have done well.

I’m actually very happy with this. Upgrade on hart tbh and goalkeeper is the one position where age isn’t too much of a factor. Could deffo get a solid 2 years out of him. Would like to offload Bain and siegrist and bring in another younger keeper to rotate/learn from him.
Could he be our van der sar :eek1:

    I'm OK too with him.

Mind you supposedly wasn't the greatest at Anderlecht.

Hang on, is he not older than Joe Hart?

Seems like they’re just desperate to get any goalkeeper in before heading off to the USA at this stage…

Hart was also at the club longer than jota for example. No one would ever have described the signing of jota as kicking the can down the road..

Replacing a 37 keeper with another 37 year old.

Honestly it’s * embarrassing we’ve had around 6 months to * identify a replacement and we should have been doing that for at least a year anyway due to Hart’s age!

    * Joke. We never ever go from a position of strength.

He's about 5 months older than Hart.

We've had keepers outside of Hart and Barkas. The notion he will be good because Hart was and that a younger keeper would flop as Barkas did is wild. Our 2 best keepers by a distance in the last few decades we paid a fee for at a younger age.

I can't say I'm overly fussed on the Schmeichel signing tbh it just feels really short sighted and entirely predictable literally kicking the can down the road. The fact we've had a bare minimum of 7 months to look for a keeper and the best we can do is a 37 year old who previously worked with the manager is hardly a glowing report for the recruitment team (If such a thing exists)

Also just to add if Anderlecht don’t want to give him a further deal and he is in a similar sort of league then alarm bells should be ringing.
