Would be massively underwhelming. At best.

Is a guy who was playing regular first team football and excelling gonna come ans sit on our bench? I highly doubt it when there'll be a heap of teams looking to either buy him or for Villa to loan out..

On the positive side if we sign him:

    - I think it will be unlikely to turn into a disaster and he is an experienced player.
    - He won’t cost much in terms of transfer fee

    Negative side

    - very short term as he is already 35.
    - good shot stopper but that is the first thing to go with age.
    - distribution isn’t great so no improvement on Hart there.
    - handling and dealing with crosses looked very suspect at Euros, it’s the main threat we face in our league, a keeper that commanded his box would be a big plus.
    - in Europe I don’t see him being that Forster or Boruc level difference maker for us.

It also doesn’t give a ringing endorsement for our scouting department who have had a season knowing our first choice keeper was out of contract and the best we can come up with is a 35 year old surplus to requirement at Newcastle. Again that is if this is true.

Maybe if it’s with a view to him being our #1 next season, he can play cup games and the odd league game

    To everyone slating Dubravka...

Remember we signed Joe Hart for £1m after he had spent at least 5-6 years in the footballing wilderness, and was basically looked at as a total washout, wasn't even deemed good enough to be 3rd choice for Spurs at the time.

At least with Dubravka he still has some recent game time as a first choice goalkeeper at Premier League level (well, certainly more than what Joe Hart had when he signed for Celtic), is still a current international goalkeeper having been first choice at the Euros.

For a free? Still on paper would be a good signing. Aye of course, we'd love to be spending millions on a younger keeper, but hey ho what will be will be. We need an established no.1 in now!

All for this, I think he'd be excellent up here for a few years.

Thought he had an ok Euro’s apart from punching away crosses that he could of caught which ultimately led to Engurland scoring.

Just hope he is an improvement over Hart and not just around the same level or less.

After rumors of Begović and Turkish keepers who look dodgy as *, Dubravka seems like Boruc in comparison. It would be another kicking of the can down only by about a dozen meters, given his age, but...

Can't see it to be honest..

You'd then be gambling on whether he'd get enough game time to dislodge the extremely experienced, international keeper who wants to keep his place..

You'd just go to a level or 2 above Exeter next time where he'd have his pick of being the main man straight away..

    Classic Celtic, this.

Joe Hart worked so let's go down the same route again and buy an aging keeper whose barely kicked a ball in the last few years.

Everything is always a stop gap with us. Is Dubravka better than Hart? That's what we should be going for. We'll be up against it in Europe and need someone to pull of saves ala Boruc and Forster. As much as I liked Hart, he wasn't that guy either.

He'll do a good job for us, the only downside is his age. However he could give us 3/4years and that's probably all we'd get from somebody younger anyway. He's big, commanding and good with the ball at his feet.

True. You get a good young keeper and they'd be gone in a couple of years anyway

    Cheap (transfer fee)

    Low risk (proven player)

Only thing is it just kicks the can further down the road of needing a GK. Just get the feeling the board are happy with these stop gaps along with some unproven randoms.

8 champions league games guaranteed so this is the season to entice some players who may not always look at us.

This is by no means a poor signing (if it happens) it just for me lacks ambition by the board again.

If I were you, I'd go look at his appearance stats and think this comment over again...

Great so maybe get 2 years and then we have to look for replacement again, Have we not got enough problems in the team without buying ashort term player.
This only works if the bulk of the money we are spending is on good quality outfield players to fill some of those gaps we need upgrading.
Think this cheap penny pinching is here to stay.

To add to this, a vast majority of spurs fans said CCV was * before he came to us. Hart was third choice at Spurs and wasn't deemed good enough to be third choice there anymore either, and Sinclair wasn't rated by Villa fans either.

I totally get not wanting Dubravka, but I wouldn't be using the fans down south as a barometre to judge him on.
