Ireland would bore the life out of you

Cannon has been reasonably bright since he's came on though to be fair, offering more than Idah did

Keeper for Ireland had some good saves but also hardly moved for some of the goals/shots. Not really sold on him.

How do you think Republic will do in next European Nations League group matches against England, Finland and Greece with first 2 at home against England then Greece and away to Finland.
    Starts on 7th Oct.
    There is good news though.
They are almost guaranteed a place in Euros 2028 competition proper.

Based on how talent weak we are particularly in midfield and with creative goal scoring players I would say we will lose all 3 away games and maybe get a win and a draw at home. Best case scenario would be 2-4 and we maybe pip Finland to avoid relegation but more likely we win only 1 or no games and get relegated.

I think I know why Ireland have been * for years.
It’s because the Irish FA were bought off by Sepp Blatter after that cheating * Thierry Henry’s handball * Ireland’s chance to compete in the 2010 World Cup.
They were going to take FIFA to court but took a bribe.
Players will think they won’t get help from their own fa so why try.

Would love it if Roy Keane and Thierry Henry were pundits on same match in next World Cup and Keane smashed his face in.

Some Irish journo wrote a good book on the FAI a few years ago detailing how they blew all their money...including the £3m from FIFA

Typical FAI signing must have been even cheaper than keeping John O'Shea

To be fair this is about what I would have expected. The Irish job is just not an attractive one at the moment so we were never getting any kind of name to take over. Not just is the current Irish squad dreadful from a quality standpoint but given how far behind almost the whole of Europe we are in terms of footballing infrastructure there is little prospect of things changing significantly for the foreseeable. My understanding is part of the remit that the FAI were insisting on for the new person was that they would also be involved in our underage structure so this also no doubt had a limiting factor on who was willing to take the job. The facts are that as a country we are only barely scratching the surface of having a proper infrastructure and pathway to consistently produce and develop our most promising younger players. There is almost no aspect of the game that we are not massively behind on. Just to give one example at academy level we have less then 1 full time coach per League of Ireland academy when you add up all the league of Ireland clubs new academies. I think only 4 other countries in Europe are as bad as that. The hours that our younger players get in training is a fraction of what players get even at academies in the lower 2 divisions in England as another example. We have a long long way to go.
