He needs to rest. He's not fully healed imo. Still managing that injury. Foolish.

He isn’t a defensive midfielder. He gets caught wrong side too much. Against the top teams they will punish you, like the Germans did last night, same as the teams in the CL do.

Highlights once again that he can't be used as a dm in CL next season. It's not his game, dives in far too much, done it twice for 1st goal last night and completely sells himself. Seen it in europe with us before too. Away to Shaktar is one that stands out.

Far better more advanced or sitting beside a proper dm. Need to address it this summer surely

Need to stop using the excuse whenever he has a bad game. It’s not that he’s injured it’s that he’s playing against far superior players.

He was crap but it’s like folk have been waiting for him to have a bad game to jump on him. Guys like McGinn have been absolutely rotten for the most part last year or 2 but he’s the media darling and has that annoying song so it just gets ignored.

Dress it up whatever way you can, but he had a stinker of a game, rabbit in the headlights and culpable for at least one goal.
Same goes for mcginn and mctominay, they didn't show up.

The fact we had a Man Utd player, Aston Villa player and Celtic captain in the middle of the park and hardly had a touch of the ball shows how badly Clarke got his tactics wrong.

Full team looked so far out of their depth it was unreal.

Scotland completely stood off in the midfield, jogged around and never pressed, they all marked spaces not players - never seen a space get an assist or goal yet.
Scotland did exactly same v England at last Euros but somehow escaped with a 0-0 due to England's jack of quality.

CalMac has same 'jog around and mark the space' approach for some of our big European games when we are under pressure, he simply isn't a top drawer DM but sadly is the only option we have.
Celtic really need to prioritise a quality #6.

It’s mad that professional football people still persist with him as a DM at the top level. It’s never been his game.

Gilmore played in that 0-0 v England, he should have started yesterday.

Cause neither team really have one, he's ours and Scotland's best defensive midfielder even though it's not his natural position.

McLean and Gilmour are like a * versions of McGregor and McTominay, McGinn and Christie are like defensive attacking midfielders, they lack the discipline to sit and be switched on, they prefer running about chasing.

McGregor and Gilmour play well together. We also played that game with 2 up front. It feels like a manager too scared to drop McTominay, McGinn or Christie.

He was poor but so was evert other player in that team.

Calmac is the whipping boy when the golden boy McGinn was just as bad.

Don't see Porteous getting a lot of hate for that idiotic challenge.

Celtic players are fair game though it seems

Yep, and the midfield is by far the strongest part of the team.

The problem scotland have is they've no quality centre halves, no quality strikers, no quality right back (love ralston but he's not at that level), no wingers.
All the opponents have to do is flood the midfield, stop Robertson running up the wing and we have * all threat.
The one thing we can do is press well and and be physical, which didn't happen at all last night.

He was a goal scoring number 8 who would play more advanced and be creative and have several shots a game in his pomp during Rodgers first spell .
If the plan is for him to become/persist on becoming a deep lying 6 as he ages , then it’s not good for anyone . He was absolutely terrible last night , watched him closely throughout , he was essentially marking space and had players runnning off of him no stop. He has lost half a yard and looked shattered. We have seen hints of that performance from him in the UCL this season , but last night is a real warning as to what UCL level opposition will do to him if he tries to be a sitting DM .

Aye he was absolute mince, but that orange * Souness couldn't wait to start blurting out childish *, clearly highlighting Celtic captain.

Literally have zero opinion of him based on a game in a Scotland jersey managed by a guy massively out of his depth and who killed his nations chances before a ball was even kicked.

As I said in the Scotland thread, not one single player gets pass marks because they were all rank rotten, that’s the long and short of it.

Sorry mate but you can't judge mcgregor on that performance. Mcgregor is a possession based player, good at reading the game and closing down spaces, so ideal for dm. We literaly had no possession and midfield was completely overrun by quality players, so no way he can be judged on that.

It’s actually quite scary how many people are willing to batter our captain based on a single game. Particularly in the context of agreeing with Graeme * Souness of all people. *.

It would be bad enough if it were for Celtic but the fact it’s for the national side makes it even worse. The guy is a born winner, a unicorn in terms of Scottish footballers and technical ability and he still has years and years in him left.
