I get that and can also agree.

Would argue that the experience can come from elsewhere in the backline, but as you say, that means stop buying 20-23 year old projects, bring in more experienced heads.

As much as there is a risk a 26 year old keeper turns out to be a Barkas sort.
There is equally the same chance a 35 year old keeper becomes a De Vries signing.

Which makes it tough for sure to get right

Would just be kicking the can down the road a bit.

Although in saying that if we sign someone at 22-25 chances are if they're successful then they'd be off within 2 years anyway. However Dubravka would likely retire within that period also.

    Not sure.

Not against it. Could go down the route of a Barkas or get in someone like this.

Like most of the stuff I've read since end of the season though, id be surprised if we're even considering making a move.

Would loved to have seen the comments on here if the internet was alive when Ronny Simpson signed...

Money in the bank for the younger guy, but risk he doesn't settle here.

Older head, only getting 2-3 years as well, less risk. No sell on.

More I think on it, more we should do the two keeper route and cover our *.

This guy/begovic/someone to help settle s 26 year old.
Only need him for 1-2 years to cover our *.

Then the 26 year old is good to go for 2-3 seasons of himself. But in that time, actively have another one signed to take over (again a year in the club to settle before the other is sold).

Too much forward planning for this club though.

Always hard to tell with goalies, but 35 is a fair age still.

Aye but Bain's role is meant to be 3rd choice now, not the sub goalie

Aye, Siegrist was signed as number 2, but that didn't work out.

Couldn’t we sign this guy and a mid twenties keeper. Let the younger keeper play in all the domestic cup ties to see how he develops.

He's no worse with the ball at his feet than Hart.

Keeper is a distinct position that needs vast experience in my view.

The whole reason experience is valued is that a keeper has no margin for error re. mistake. Young outfielders like O’Riley, Bernardo, Idah can make all sorts of mistakes on the pitch/miss open goals but can easily make up for it.

There’s no scope for a young guy learning his trade to be our GK.

35 is a great age for a GK.

Forster was a bit of an anomaly.

If you go on his player profile on Celtic FC website, it says he signed a new 3 year deal in May 2023.

Pass, live in Newcastle and my mates don't rate him one bit. I trust their opinions.

I work with 2 Newcastle fans, one supports Newcastle and Rangers and the other supports Newcastle and Celtic(don't get me started on it) and both them say he would be a good signing for us for a couple of years. Think he performed really well for Newcastle last season, when called upon. Didn't Nick Pope get injured for 3 months and he played a few games in the Premier League for them?

Forster is one of my, if not The fav goalkeeper i can remember. But i think we need someone vocal which he is not in such a inexperienced side. Not sure Dubravka is that though tbh. I want a screaming maniac like Hart was.

But in all honesty, if we got Forster i would be buzzing.

And he was poor with the ball.

I just don't get it. Hart made more sense because of his history. He had played at the very highest level for years and needed somewhere to build his confidence back. Plus his leadership skills and personality.

Dubravka was Newcastle's first choice when they were fighting for survival and he was decent. But by all accounts he's really on the way down, and he'll be 36 at the halfway point of this season. Not sure about his leadership skills but I'd be very surprised if he's anywhere close to Hart in that regard.

Like I said, it's just lazy from us if he's our number 1 goalkeeper signing. Fair enough if people want experience in that position, but if that's the case just go for a 28-32 year old. Someone who either will have resale value to fit our model, or they'll be here for longer than 2 years.
