Flavius Daniliuc

CELTIC have reportedly shown interest in an Austrian defender who is set to feature at Euro 2024 this month.

The 23-year-old centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Red Bull Salzburg and has also played for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, having came through the youth ranks at both clubs


And he crossed paths with current Hoops winger Nicolas Kuhn in Munich as they both starred for the reserve team together - along with former Rangers loanee Malik Tillman too.

Now they could reunite this summer as reports in Germany say Brendan Rodgers is looking to rival the Austrian giants for the player's signature.

Flavius Daniliuc is a highly rated defender who has been capped three times by Austria after captaining the nation's youth teams for many years.

He started his career as a youngster at Admira Wacker before moving to Rapid Wien in 2010, but his career took another leap a year later as he was snapped up by Real Madrid in 2011



That's where the 6ft 2in centre-back stayed for three years before he moved club again - this time to another European giant - as he put pen to paper over a deal with the German club.

But after five seasons at the Allianz, Danilius couldn't force his way into the first team and finally started a new chapter of his career with regular first team football at French side Nice in the summer of 2020.

But for the previous six months, he teamed up with Kuhn, who had made the move from Ajax in January.

And Sky Sports Germany report that Daniliuc could become a team-mate of the winger once again, with Celtic in the race to land him this summer


The 23-year-old is contracted with Italian outfit Salernitana following his switch from France in 2022 and still has two years left on his four-year deal.

Salzburg signed him on loan in January and have first dibs to sign him permanently ahead of next season after including an option to purchase in their negotiations with the then Serie A club

And it's likely he will part ways with Salerno-based side this summer after they failed to avoid relegation from the top flight last season.

It's likely the defender will want to play in a first division next season and the lure of European football will probably tempt him on a permanent move back to his homeland

However, Celtic could rival the Austrian club's interest as they will also provide the chance for him to play in the new-look Campions League campaign next season
