He is one of my favourite players ever.

Would easily fit into any Celtic team in my life time.

Hes never coming back though. Shame because we love him and he loves us.

If there's a 0.01% chance, we should go all out for him.

Al-Ittihad misfit Jota would reportedly "love" a return to Celtic this summer - but wages look set to scupper any prospect of a deal. .

The 24-year-old endured a nightmare campaign in the Saudi Pro League following his £25m departure from the Scottish Premiership champions last summer - having initially not been registered on the list of foreign players allowed in the Ittihad league squad. That limited the forward to cameos in cup competitions and occasional Asian Champions League appearances - and despite being brought back into the first-team picture in January he faced an injury-hampered campaign in the Middle East managing just 25 appearances last term.

The attacker looks set to be shown the door this summer as Ittihad look to bring in a host of new foreign additions and challenge for the title next term. Saudi outlet TV 24 claim that Jota "would love" a switch back to Glasgow's east end - after social media rumours ramped up in the Middle East about a potential return earlier this summer

However, it is noted that there has been no contact from Celtic over a potential switch back to the club. It is also claimed that the salary demands are "expected to end" any hope of a "realistic" deal with a move to the English Premier League "best for all.

Despite this, it does does appear that time could be up - with Hi Koura c laiming that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is a target this summer. It is stated that Ittihad are "ready" to launch a bid for the England international and move on several stars currently on their foreign player list - including Jota.

I don't understand why wages would scupper a deal.

If any player wants to player for us, they know that we don't pay top dollar. It either matters or it doesn't.

If Jota really wanted to come back here, he could be back here before a ball is kicked for the 24/25 season.

I don't begrudge him for getting paid as much as he can get. However, if he really wanted to play football here, he'd tell his agent to accept £40k a week at us and wed all welcome him back with open arms/legs.

Because it would be a loan deal and he's on something absolutely ridiculous there like 200k a week or something

All the more reason not to scupper it. The Saudis can pay his wages. Already are.

Would it be a loan deal though? Could be permanent.

If it is a loan deal, Saudi club fc could pay a percentage of his wages, we could and he could forfeit a percentage.

If wages are the only stumbling block, he could negate it if he really wants to come back. It's the only way that we would be able to afford any deal.

The Saudis don't care about the money. Loan to us solves a problem for them. They just keep paying him. Doesn't need to be any more complicated.

    Win.Win. Win.

I would be over the moon if Jota came back this summer but I just don't see it happening. Maybe the wages issue could be dealt with by Jota himself but if he is being sold there is zero chance we would be spending anything much more than our transfer record of 9m which is what we paid for Edouard. I imagine the Saudi's would take less then the 25m they paid us for him but would they be prepared to go as low as around 10m which surely would be the max we would go for I don't see that. Would be amazing if it somehow was worked out but just don't see how the finances are workable.

No even gonna think of getting excited. Selling for 25mil getting him back and spending a tonne on wages only to sell on again for another high fee makes all the sense in the world. BUT our board cannot and will not look past the high wage part.

    It's an absolute non starter.

Jota would be in the completely dominant position of being able to hold them to wherever he wanted to go.

They need him gone to free up space in their foreign player limit. He can literally turn round and say, I’m going nowhere but Celtic. Make it alone and Ittihad would have no choice but to pay him off or agree a loan with us.

Jota can make this happen if he wants to.

    My thoughts exactly.

I'm not expecting anyone to play for free or anything. But he knows the club and knows fine well what our wage structure looks like.

I'm all for that structure being tossed out the window, but it's not gonna be to sign players on 100k a week or some nonsense.

We should have 1 or 2 on 35-40k who represent the leak level we can get here, Jota would firmly fit that bill and deserve that salary.

    I'd get it done.

If the Saudis are stupid/happy enough to rip his contract up and it's a free transfer, happy * days.
If they want 5-10m for him, get it done also.

Obviously we ain't spending more than that on a transfer fee mind you.

But wages, surely aren't an issue. As you say, if he wants to come back, he's not gonna shoot himself in the foot by then asking for a silly amount.
