Love that optimism. Unfortunately, there is no chance. Especially if Kelleher is going for £15m and Edouard around the same.

If that’s revenue mate we will make more than all the other clubs this year. Probably be about on par/ just ahead of Copenhagen.

Last year after taking into account money in we were up north of £140m probably over €150m. Our turnover before player sales was just under £120m.

We will be similar if not higher again this year than the £120m figure. We haven’t had the same level of player sales this time as Jota was counted last time around.

What I would say PSV, Brugge, Copenhagen and Ajax all do better than us is bring through some of their own players and as a result they spend what they have on a smaller number of players and therefore paying bigger fees in comparison to us bringing through no one and spreading our transfer spend and wages too thin.

We really should be looking to lose about 15 players from the squad over the next two windows and signing about 8.

We should also be looking to integrate at least a player, probably 2 a season from our B team/ academy/ who has been out on loan into the squad.

The issue we have is a lack of anyone providing strategic direction for how the club get from where we are just now to doing the above and that’s where a Director of Football should come in.

On scouting we could do better but I do actually think by and large, the club are able to spot some good players, getting the deal done seems to be far more problematic.

The lack of strategy was so evident last summer, we signed Yang and Tilio both as development players who play the same position. We signed Iwata, Kwon and Holm who all played the same position for their previous club. Centre back was a bit different as injuries forced us to go sign a third player there and Starfelt moving on but signed one of them on an agent recommendation.

Essentially our recruitment always seems all over the place and not properly thought through.

    My absolute dream would be

Goalkeeper No. 1- Koen Casteels- Wolfsburg- FREE
Goalkeeper No. 2- Ricardo Velho- Farense- £1m
    Left Back- Gijs Smal-FC Twente-FREE
Starting Centre Back- Jake Clarke Saltier-QPR-£6m
Rotational Centre Back- Scott McKenna-Nottingham Forest-FREE
    Rotational Centre Midfielder- Paulo Bernardo-Benfica-£3.5m
    Starting Centre Midfielder- Albert Gronbaek-Bodo-£7m
Starting Right Winger- Jota Silva- Vitoria Guimares-£8m
Rotational Left Winger- Aboubakary Koita-St Truiden-£4m
    Starting Striker- Kevin Denkey-Cercle Brugges-£11m

    Cost- £40.5m

    Offset by the sales of

    O'Riley-£25m
    Frimpong percentage-£7m
    MJ-£3m
    Lagerbielke £2m
Other squad players-£7m(Tilio, Kwon, Kobayashi, Oh, Yang, Palma, Bernabei, Siegrist, Haksabanovic)

Total-£44m. No touching the money in the bank, no touching the impending champions league fortune. Just smart, transfer dealings. 10 players coming in, 12 players going out. Not including loans of players like Montgomery, Holm, Lawal, Anderson and Kelly.

Casteels has signed for a Saudi club and Smal has signed for PSV. Jota Silva was close to West Ham, not sure if that fell through.

    It's still early days.

However the longer we go on without any news on the recruitment structure the more uneasy I'll be.

Have to imagine that for this window it'll be Rodgers and whomever is left to lead. Too late for someone to come in and have a substantial impact you'd imagine.

Concerning when we need to really get this window right.

Talk of Jota, Tierney, Edouard etc for me is paper chat you see at rhe outset of every window. Until Jota leaves Saudi he will be the new Bellamy or Keane.

I agree. This is just media chatter to fill the void of any evidence of actual progress in identifying, approaching and signing new targets.

I know we're barely a week into the window, but I'd have thought the club would be keen to put the negative perspectives on last season's windows behind us and identify some clear targets early doors. Ideally we want to see some progress towards new starting players in key positions before the month is out.

It'll 100% be down to contacts Rodgers has.

Not the best track record nor the best situation, but it is what it is.

He's gone 2 up top in his previous stint..

I think a club with as many games as we play should always have 3 strikers..

Aye Maeda can play there bit hes our first choice next winger. It would need to be a versatile type who wasn't the main man on the wing..

That's concerning as it will limit the scope quite some distance.

Hopefully the likes of Cooper can really help out. Really shouldn't be this way.

You'd like to think we'll have a whole list of targets identified for months..

Is concerning when you see rumours of us going to watch international friendlies for keepers when we've known for about 4 month our first choice was leaving. Hopefully utter * but..

Blind faith or whatever but I'm fairly confident we'll do some good business this summer. Been a lot of talk from people higher up in the game was a sheep executive and a respected journalist that mentioned just after the league that we'd be spending a significant amount wasn't it?

Aye I think it'll be similar to Ange's first season, where there was one or two players we got through our contacts (Jota, Abada, Hart and Scales) where-as the rest will be players Rodgers knows/wants.

Think it's almost a cert McKenna joins, which I'm not even against tbf, but wouldn't shock me if a lot of our transfers this season come from down south.

Could still be a good window mind you, we got away with it during Ange's first season with no proper scouting in place, it doesn't excuse it in the slightest but it's more than possible.

I think this is the first window I've gone in to expecting disappointment. If we weren't willing to spend last summer we'll never spend
