Take him at a cut price but will not be happy if he is the O’Riley replacement. Think we need to show intent with his replacement personally and bring in someone high level.

clearly rated within the club but needs to impact games a lot more when he starts, definitely someone you can trust tactically and always puts a shift in are good traits to have.

A right good team mate as Strachan would say.

Not sure how great a deal this is TBH. £3.5 million is absolute robbery IMO and Benfica are no mugs, so I can only guess that they will get a larger percentage of any sell-on fee in return. To me, that suggests that we are either being very short-sighted here or that we don't really rate him all that highly and can't see him going for a big fee.

Sell on fees are fine, if Benfica want 30% of his future sale, just make sure we sell him for 30% more than we want for him

3.5 million is fair, sell on fee if 15% to 20% would also be fair.

Not sure how much they are wanting for sell on fee but anything more than that is * on our side.

I don't really see much to be positive about these days. Not only with Celtic. Just look at the choices in the current election. I don't know much about Ed Davy; but I utterly despise all of Starmer, Sunak and Farage with a passion and all 3 of them clearly have contempt for the likes of me. I don't see things getting better under any of them. Plus, look at the world right now.

Even if I restrict myself to football, Real Madrid just won their 6th CL since 2014 and just bought the best player in the world. Manchester City are taking the English league to court for daring to try to enforce basic FFP rules that have seen much lesser offenders like Everton and Nottingham Forrest docked points and even have the Chutzpah to claim damages and everywhere I look, billionaires and sovereign wealth funds are buying up clubs and all the best players are now concentrated in a dozen or so European clubs in the big 5 leagues.

Even if I restrict myself to Celtic, I don't see reasons for optimism, because lessons haven't been learnt. I think we got very lucky this season in that Rodgers agreed to come back for his own personal reasons and his friendship with Desmond and possibly McGregor. I think a lesser manager wouldn't have won that league with that squad and those injuries and I see no indication that the board have the expertise in place to find a manager of a similar class to Rodgers who isn't actually Rodgers. I'm sure we'll spend money this summer and perhaps we might even spend it well if Rodgers is driving it; but inevitably, he'll move on at some point and we still don't have a proper modern structure in place to recruit playing staff reliably, let alone managers. We don't even have the basics like a DoF. It's just kicking the can down the road.

So no, I'm not Mr Sunshine these days.

Maybe his lack of game time was to keep the fee down but we rate him? Wouldn’t be surprised but hope he signs!

I actually wondered that myself at times. Idah too (I know he played a fair bit; but his performances merited being ahead of Kyogo IMHO).

Seems that things are falling into place. Happy for him, the first time I mentioned him was back in 2021 in Jota's thread.

Hopefully he can be a starter for you next season.

Fully expect more from him next season.
He's had his bedding in time and now needs to get his preseason done and hit next season running.

I'm realistic, he's not gonna be blowing it away every week and he ain't gonna be one of the first 11 midfield. But he's gotta be forcing his way in to it as the season goes.

    Believe in him.
    The price is good.

    On to the next now

Just echoing what others have said but £3.5m is a steal for someone who has already played as much as he has for us, is at an age where he's only going to get better and, importantly, clearly wants to be here. Plus between him and Jota we're going to hopefully have a decade of Benfica academy grads being told how class it is to play for Celtic which can only be a good thing :giggle1:

Absolutely. I'd even argue that he's already that, given his contribution in the derbies this season.

£3.5m is a pretty fair price. Would probably have gone slightly above too as I think there's enough potential there and enough qualities to his game. Please with this, good start to the window

Fair play - you’ve more faith than most. If we can get him for what’s being currently rumoured, then, I think we’ll be doing okay.
