It doesn’t even make sense from a television point of view either it cuts down amount of potential tv broadcasters from other countries …liklihood games be on at same time so audience will be split up

100% agree. There are loads of examples like that PSG one, like trying to press RB Leipzig even after it was clear they could play through our press. I'd add a 3rd thing, which is the one JC Anton always talks about, i.e. that we need structural reorganisation along more professional lines that a club our size and structure ought to demand.

Specifically, I think the Burnley first team and Luton first team are better than ours. I'm not talking about the clubs in general.

Maybe "rubbish" was too strong; but apart from a single season, it was demonstrably weaker than ours and we achieved nothing. So they were hardly a great side.

We were able to hurt teams? We won one game out of 12, mate. I also think we were well beaten in most of the games we lost. I admit we were unlucky to lose at home to Lazio and unlucky to only draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk; on the other hand, we were lucky to get a draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk. I'm not seeing us hurting teams.

We were able to hurt one of the best teams in Europe in Atletico. We created more than enough at home to an even better team in Real. We beat Feyenoord at home. We should have beat Lazio at home and Shakhtar away. So yes, I think we have shown we can hurt teams. The problem under Ange was a mix of naivety, poor finishing and a touch of bad luck. The issue last season was recruitment. Even with the shocking recruitment and injuries though, we were still able to pick up points. It will be the same again this year. If we can recruit well, which I won’t be holding my breath for by the way because I know how our board operates, then I think we can make a mark yes. Had we acted like a professional club last summer, I think there’s a good chance we get out the group.

You’re kind of making my point for me. You are calling us deluded for thinking we can achieve something in Europe, but by your own admission, a poor huns team reached a European final.

You're missing the point here. I'm not saying that a poor team can't do anything in Europe; I'm saying we can't do anything in Europe. My evidence for this is the last decade of watching Celtic in Europe.

Atletico: we got a draw. I'll give you that.
    Real: we were well beaten.
Lazio: we lost, though, didn't we?
Shakhtar away: we didn't actually win, though, did we? And that was the poorest team I've ever seen us play in the CL.
    Feyenoord: I'll give you that.

So are you basing the idea that we can hurt teams on a single draw at home to Atletico and a single win at home to Feyenoord and a couple of draws against the poorest CL team we've ever played, all from a total of of 12 games?

This is not a short-term thing, mate. It's a long-term pattern at this point.

Been watching a few football manager videos of this new format and while 9 points can get you into the top 24 it's rare and the benchmark for qualification seems to be 10 points.

Gonna need a lot of work done this summer to get 10 points with pot 4 being so * stacked.

No I’m not. We created an abundance of chances under Ange in games. Think PSG were maybe the only team that had more shots on target than we did last year in the group stages. This year we were hamstrung by our tinpot board. But I think Rodgers showed enough to be optimistic if we do have a good transfer window this summer then we can definitely compete.

Lazio you said in the other post we were unlucky to lose. So you clearly think we done enough to show we can hurt them that night. Now to suit your argument it’s “aye but we lost.” Now you aren’t wrong, but showing we can hurt them is different to simply “we lost.”

I don’t buy this we’ve just been unlucky argument that some fans say every year either by the way, because when it’s been that long since we won a European knockout game, it’s not just down to bad luck. The last two year I do think we’ve shown enough to suggest with a strong transfer window we can make a mark though. I think we showed more this year than when Rodgers was here previously, and I’d say he had a worse team this year.

no I see us getting Idah, Bernardo and a GK, then the possibility of one more to replace O’Riely

That's pretty interesting. In essence we would then really need to recover the home form of old in Europe. 4 home fixtures in the league phase, 3 wins and 1 draw= 10 points. Can't see us doing anything away from home but you never know, might pick up a point somewhere

In Europe we need to be more adaptable in the way we play. I think, Idah could give us an out we don’t normally have, I think we need more robust defenders on LH side, if we get this and less trying to get scales to pass through a PSG press then we can improve our results.

Looking for a vast improvement in Europe * shocking if sevco qualify they will be in pot 2 pushing us into pot 4 they are the worst team even to play in it as well ..also seeing we may play few games on a Thursday night also .as the increase in games .in the long term I really think the New Europa format would suit us rather than this champions league but let's see how we get on

OK, if by "we can hurt teams" you meant "we can create chances against them", then of course you are right about that. It's true but not all that interesting IMHO. Take the home game against Real: we created quite a few chances against them and yet the result was never in doubt. If we had scored one or 2 and gone on to lose 2-5 instead of 0-3, I wouldn't consider that hurting them TBH. Of course Real are Real; but similar points could be made about the Leipzig games.

Regarding Lazio, we lost, mate. Yes we were unlucky, but we lost. Again, I don't consider this hurting teams. Once you start introducing hypotheticals for the Lazio game at CP, the door is also open to hypotheticals about our last minute winner against Feyenoord or the craziest missed chance I've ever seen that rescued our draw at CP against Shakhtar Donetsk.

We don't hurt teams anymore, if I compare this to even Lenny's teams. I think this gets to the crux of my dissatisfaction TBH. If we're going to get in stylish managers like Ange or Rodgers, then we have to get the recruitment right more often than not. We have to get a little bit better every year, with a view to reaching the levels of teams like Benfica 5-10 years down the line. If we're not going to do that, what is even the point of bringing in attacking managers with a modern style of play? In the short term, we already know how to punch above your weight: size, power, as much pace as we can afford and a pragmatic, defensive style. We'd be as well getting David Moyes in. I have no doubt then we really would be able to hurt some superior teams, although it would also put a hard cap on what could be achieved in the long term (no way we could reach Benfica's level like that). But then again, we're not progressing anyway.
