I like him but I also get the argument he's a tad pricey. Having said that, he's done well with what he's been given, he has a great attitude (not a stroppy git) and genuinely seems happy here... three big pluses...sure we could buy someone better with the same money but will they settle, will they like it here, will they get on with BR? With the big man, we already know he's happy here.

    I'd purchase his talents!

Think he's shown more than enough to justify paying the money for him. We know what we're getting and he's only going to improve I reckon.

One more thing I’ll say about Bernardo. When we compare him to o Reilly just remember this is an O’Riley that has developed and come on quite a bit since his first season. Even from last season under brendan the goal contributions from him have been great. The same could definitely happen with bernardo. Still room for development still only 22.

I'd sign him, great attitude, even remember against Aberdeen he was pure frustrated he was slamming his head against the dugout. * cares and is a bit of baller with potential. Sign the *.

Callum McGregor has urged Celtic to bring fellow midfielder Paulo Bernardo back to the club for next season, saying he is exactly the ‘profile’ of player that is needed.

Bernardo made a telling contribution in the Scottish Cup final from the bench on Saturday, driving forward from the middle of the park and getting a shot on target that was spilled by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, allowing Adam Idah to follow in and score Celtic’s late winning goal

He has also made a consistent contribution throughout the season, particularly when members of Brendan Rodgers’ preferred starting midfield trio in McGregor and Hatate had their injury issues, chipping in with four goals in his 33 appearances for the club.

His loan spell from Benfica has now come to an end, however, there is an option for Celtic to secure Bernardo on a permanent contract for a fee believed to be in the region of £6.5m, with the club bow discussing whether to activate that clause inserted into the deal last summer.

McGregor, for his part, would love to see the 22-year-old make a return to Celtic for next season, and the club captain is hopeful that his future will indeed be in Glasgow

“Listen, he has been an important player for us – he has big technical quality, he is a young kid who wants to do well,” McGregor said

“So, that is the type of profile we want at the club. Hopefully we can bring him back.

“He is a great lad as well. He works ever so hard, and he is a part of the group we have got.

“Obviously the club will decide in terms of what happens there, but that is certainly the profile that we want.

“You want hungry players who are technically good and can come and make an impact as well.”

I agree with your posts on here regarding our standard of recruitment in general, but I need to disagree when it comes to Bernardo.

A youth international with a top nation, with no real weaknesses, who is already familiar with his teammates and the expectations of the club, and with plenty of potential to grow.

He can pass, run, tackle, score, link up.

His best attribute will be seen in Europe again. He shuts off passing lanes, and intelligently presses like someone beyond his years.

We’ll struggle to get a more complete player for the price we’ll pay for him.

    Summed up perfectly.
Has plenty of development left in him and Rodgers could get him up a couple of levels.

Bernardo and Idah is at the levels we need from our rotation options.

If the price is right we should sign the both of them.

I fully agree. I think he just doesn’t look as fancy a footballer of what people may expect and a lot of the good work he does goes unnoticed. Really hope we bring him in, one of his first games for us was to come on in a UCL game and he looked comfortable af for such a young lad at a new club

Our midfield looks difficult to know your place. Currently have very similar midfielders that have been used in all 3 positions. Think if bernardo can find his best place he will be a great signing.
Clearly trusted by Rodgers on the bigger stage hence champions league.
