What planet are some of you in if you think we are paying 50k+ for players :56:

40k isn't even our limit. We gave that to Larsson, Bellamy, Keane etc as very special, one offs.

That wasn't the cap, that was Desmond being Desmond.

    Brown didn't even hit 40k a week.

McGregor creeps close to it now, but generally we keep 30-35k for captain, everyone else is below that

That was over a decade ago. I’m pretty confident we are paying £50k (or close to it) in wages to our top earners.

That's been the issue though, our wages have stayed the same for over a decade, two decades now.

We tried pushing Balde out because he was on 33k 20 years ago.
We only generally now pay that to our captain (a touch more).

The link is literally for this year, march then updated mere weeks ago.

We do not pay 50k to anyone.

Don't think so... Some of the recent contract renewals have been salary reductions... £2.5M, plus bonuses is hefty money for a league where the total compensation for winning is only something like £5M

Wonder how many players we are or will be 'monitoring' until someone else actually acts and signs them?
Despite the cash mountain, I fully expect procrastination and penny pinching to reign supreme once again, especially after a league and (hopefully) cup double.
Go on, prove us wrong Peter :39:

How do we know the wages in that link are accurate though?

Pretty sure CCV will not be on any less than 40k. Sinclair and Dembele both were above that. Larsson was 50k I'm sure in 2001.

Huns are paying Lundstram about 42k for example we will definitely have players above that. Obvious ones.

Because consistently there is a lot of data sites that suggest these are in the correct ball park at least.

Have been for years at these sort of levels.

We're known for a wage cap that's never changed in twenty years.

Why we are suddenly thinking that cap doesn't exist, that the cap has near doubled for some players in the space of 12 months is quite weird.

Hart signed from spurs on 15k a week, CCV didn't sign for three times that :56:

Sinclair was also on 35k, there is a sun article on that dated 2 may 2019 (dont want to link to all these rags)

Demebele was on approx 20k, he signed as a 19 year old from Fulham on approx 6k.
I don't believe he ever signed a new deal, highly doubt we gave a 19 year old over 40k off the bat, let alone ever. (Mylondon article dated 29th June 2016).

It's also widely known and accepted for many years now that the Huns pay far more than us in wages.

Cmon mate, you honestly believe the * in that link you posted? Kyogo on £19k a week? :56::56::56:

Anyway, the wage "cap" for our players will be for basic salary, not accounting in any bonuses etc etc

No doubt there is bonuses, clean sheets goals, European performances etc.
But we're always talking base weekly wage when we discuss these things.

No one at Celtic is on 40k, let alone 50k.

I doubt anybody is on 50k. I think people will be on higher than those sites suggest, McGregor, O'Riley, CCV, Maeda, Kyogo and Hatate all signing contract extensions singe July. I could imagine significant pay increases. I could imagine for example the players from Japan all came in on under 20k, same with O'Riley but are now on well over that. CCV probably came in on 25k ish but commanded far more. Since those pay increases I can imagine CCV and McGregor on 35-40k plus bonuses.

Was well reported at the time and said by Hart himself that money wasn't a reason for him coming here so I don't think that's a great example.

CCV would have been on 20k + with Spurs. Then he signed with us would have been a bump. Then on top of that signed another new deal.

Anyway. Time will tell but I think for the right player we will go above what would be considered our norm.

I'm sure I've seen many on here claim that the wage structure is set so that the captain has the biggest wages, and that is likely around 40k.

So we currently have 6 or 7 Scouts on the books, difficult to know how competent they are.. and are they now purely working to what Rodgers wants..

Seems we're going against the grain, currently at least. Most clubs with ambition are appointing DoF or similar title I see Bournemouth have just appointed Tiago Pinto, after similar roles at Roma and Benfica..

That's what I would like, someone with experience in that type of role.

I'm not saying we should go out and sign majority of these types.

But I just wanted to see what others know on whether there is a decent pool of homegrown players we could look to sign... it shouldn't be THE reason we sign a player, but is there many players that could be seen as good enough and realistic that we could sign?

    Aye that's probably fairly accurate..

Will likely be topped up to that kinda mark with bonuses etc after his new deal. Can't see anyone being above him..

Think when Broony was here he was our highest paid as captain and on around 30 odd a week..

I'm no overly clued up on this at all though but don't think we'll be close to the 50 or at 30 anymore. Likely in-between for the very very top but with bonuses topping it up..

It is strange though, that we are willing to pay far more for the services of a manager than a player. At least in the case of Brendan Rodgers. I think some mentioned he was on 70k weekly in his first stint. Even if it was closer to 60k like @Mr Shelby said somewhere, that's still way more than we are going to give our best players.

I think that's probably where Desmond steps in personally..

Our wage structure does need looking at. If we're wanting to move forward and we do have some sort of wage cap or no one being allowed to surpass the captain, then we simply won't..

Everyone recognises if we want to attract the next level types then we're gonna have to spend a bit more or offer them significantly more in wages compared to what's here. That's just how we grow..

Would help if we weren't stuck with about 2 full sides of utter pish eating in to the budget..

From a Scroogey McScrooge perspective of P. Lawwell, this bold bit is not sensible, and wastes money. Just like constantly buying players at prices between £2M and 3M. Then again, if Lawwell reads this, he might decide we are better off just promoting academy players instead of signing players:88:
