Your conclusion is fine, but in Europe, Lenny/Strachan ball is exactly what we should be playing. Against Kilmarnock actually, we were going long quite a few times, and utilized Idah. Midfield control is not always important.

I don’t know where this opinion is coming from that McKenna is poor on the ball. He isn’t Beckenbauer or VVD, but even at Aberdeen he had a reputation for recycling possession from the back and starting counter-attacks.

Our board tend to give less backing to a manager in the 2. summer compared to the first. Last summer we spent almost £19M. So, this summer will be less.
I predict: GK and LB for a combined £9-10M, Idah £4-5M, a loanee MF instead of Bernardo and O'Riley.

O'Riley, Siegrist, Lagerbielke, Hakšabanović and Oh to leave permanently. Maybe Yang or Johnston too.

We’ve literally never had so much money in the history of the club mate. If we don’t spend at least £30m its a complete joke. Especially considering O’Riley will probably go for about that.

We are a joke, but what are the fans prepared to do about it? If we spend £20M, it'll be the realistic maximum we can expect from the board.

I don't give a * if we spend 30 pence. As long as the players brought in improve us.

A free signing of mooys qaulity. Yes please.

A free Joe Hart? * aye.

Doesn't always need to cost millions.

However if a top notch player wants to come here and he costs £10m? Then I'd expect the fee to be paid.

That goes without saying mate but there comes a point where you need to broaden those boundaries in regards to what players we are looking at.

It’s all well and good saying Nawrocki cost 4.5m and O’Riley cost 1.5m, but on a whole if we look to spend more money we are more likely to see the fruits of that in the team. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be on the lookout for the next Hart, Mooy, Hatate, Maeda and O’Riley.

But too many looking at we only spent x amount. £20m spend isn't the issue, we've spent that before and succeeded but during the summer it was spent on *. Palma being the only purchase from the summer that gets pass marks.

I get * that we spend £2m on several * players when we refuse to spend £6m on a player unless they've had a loan first.

We should be looking at a constant flow of £6-8M players (squad building) through our squad at this point... Lowest value we should be looking at should be £3-4M (projects). Dropping to that ~£2M area should be for players from further outside the norm or on contractual reasons.

We're a CL team, it's extremely unlikely we'll lose money on any reasonable transfer we bring in, unless they see our their contract and walk for free. That can be mitigated by the contract itself.

We'd be far better served by buying 3 or 4 players at £4-8M over the 2 windows and using the youth players to bulk our squad than our constant churn of 'cheap' projects at about £2-3M each. Within a couple of seasons we'd have strength across the entire squad, supplemented by our own development players. Selling 1 or 2 players a year wouldn't hobble is at all...

It's should be a spiralling increase of buying less players for higher values, that our constant shotgun blast strategy

With the massive upgrade in quality needed in at least 5/6 first team starters. Being a Euro's summer, straight in to CL with well over £100m to play for.

Leads me to this question (out of interest). When should we expect to make our first signing(s)??

Surely Rodgers himself would be all over that considering what he's had to deal with this season..

How much would Aberdeen be wanting for him?

I heard an Italian team were looking at him.

Not sure it will be big name signings or anything but I would expect a couple signed before the end of June so they are counted in this years figures. With selling Abada we will likely only have a small loss on player trading this financial year, (Jota sale was counted in last years numbers), but there will likely still be a sizeable operational profit.

I think it will be another record year for revenue before player sales are taken into account. The other factor though in terms of costs will be how much of Barrowfield we pay for before the end of the financial year. If that isn’t that much then we will definitely look to sign players before the end of June to offset tax.

Is it realistic to think we could sign Kelleher ?

Doubt it. He's young and has played a decent amount of games. Trafford cost Burnley 15m, so id figure Kelleher could easily get more.

There is a couple of players over there still worth keeping an eye on. The main one is Kuryu Matsuki of FC Tokyo who is an all action centre midfielder.
