I was hoping he'd get on when I saw him on the bench today, but given how tight the second half became it was never likely to happen. Would really like to see him get some minutes before the end of the season though.

Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly has knocked back an initial contract offer from the club, but remains in talks over a new deal.

It’s understood the Hoops and the 18-year-old are still keen to agree terms.

Kelly’s current deal expires on December 31 and he would be able to enter pre-contract talks with other clubs in the summer.

Sky Sports News reported in March that a new four-year contract was being discussed.

Kelly broke into the first team this year and scored his first senior goal for the club in Celtic’s 7-1 win over Dundee on February 28.

Confident he'll sign. Him and his family will rightly be looking for the best deal he can get at his age. Plus he wants to be here.

Hopefully can get him on a new deal and out on loan to a Championship club or top SPFL club next season.

Bit odd he wasn't on the bench on Saturday. Instead we had an extra CB.

He’s too good for championship, hasn’t looked out of place in our midfield domestically when he’s come on so I reckon a couple teams in our league would be keen on him

I mean in England, would loan both him and Lawal out there if there's any interest.

Oh right I get ye, yeah I think definitely have a look at them in pre season and assess it then. One of them could be a rotational squad player, I do think a good loan would suit kelly though as he’s that bit younger

Daniel Kelly will sit down with Celtic for more contract talks this week - despite interest from the Invincible Bayer Leverkusen.

The academy Player of the Year has a number of suitors around Europe with Xabi Alonso's side keen to discover the Hoops' asking price for the starlet. Sources in Germany have made it clear to Football Scotland that the 18-year-old is considered a serious talent for the age group and that Leverkusen are hoping to strike a deal.

The Hoops, meanwhile, have been steadfast in their desire to keep the playmaker and the feeling inside the club is that they believe they can have successful talks and convince Kelly to pledge his future to Parkhead

That would then leave the Scottish champions in a much stronger position down the line should he hit the ground running under manager Brendan Rodgers next season with any potential transfer exit then bringing about a more substantial fee. Right now it's understood the compensation package would sit just shy of around £500k

Rodgers considers Kelly among his first-team having given him run outs this term against Hearts, Livingston, St Johnstone and Dundee in the Premiership, where he scored his first senior goal in the division against the Dees

We should have given him a much better deal and not haggled with him.

if the rumours are true would you begrudge him a move to Germany, not a * chance.

Hope he signs this new deal if not the club has * dropped the ball massively.

The future of Scottish football. All these young guys will be looking for moves to Italy, Germany, England etc after seeing the success of players like Tierney, Hickey, Ferguson. We'll be lucky to see guys like McGregor and Forrest again.

More money, better facilities, better coaching, better lifestyle .... list goes on.

Said it before and the guys above are saying similar.

If you're a young player at 16-19 at Celtic, trying to come through and literally any other club shows an interest in you, you are probably better to go.

Specially if it's in Germany, Italy, France or maybe Spain. And more so if it's to a club in any of those top leagues.
Let alone an invincible winning Leverkusen.

Does anyone suggest he's gonna walk in at 18 and be playing 20+ games in that first team? Of course not. But the level of coaching and development on offer, even for a single year, is ten fold what we offer.
6 months there, a loan out to another German club (bundesliga 2) and the lad would be 19 going on 20 and looking to then break in to the Leverkusen side. If not making that grade, he will have gathered far more experience and education in football than we bother with, a move then to a slightly smaller club in Germany would be on the cards.

Add to that, you'll be offered a better wage, you'd be a mug not to take that opportunity over staying with us.

Best case scenario if he stays here, he gets moaned out after next season to an ICT or a Greenock, back to us at near 21 and still struggling to get in the side with not much development having happened.

I hate sounding this negative about it all, but it's plain simple. Youth talent get a much better football education and development elsewhere at a host of other clubs willing to pay them for the joy of it. Then they have a better chance of making it in a first team club, be it at a Leverkusen or a balogna, you're window to impress to higher clubs is massive compared to sticking with us.

I wish we'd stop * about with youngsters' development.

Why even bother having a youth set up when we continously block their chances of fulfilling their potential.

We have the money, give him a decent pay rise, long term, and punt him out on loan to Aberdeen or Motherwell or Hibs or st Mirren ffs.

You think he's going to turn down Leverkusen?

Not a chance regardless of what we do

We knew when his deal was running out.

We should be renewing contracts with a minimum of 18 months left on their deals.

He obviously didn't sign the deal we had on the table (which should've been on the table a long time ago) because of the length or/and the pay or/and the lack of development here.
