Considering his last 3 or 4 years at club football, his international career has been pretty mince.

21 caps and 4 goals against Kosovo, Ireland, Cyprus and New Zealand.

Giorgos Giakoumakis has lifted the lid on his Celtic transfer exit and admitted he had wanted a pay rise that didn't come.

The Greek striker was with the Hoops for a season and a half and more than proved his worth, scoring 26 goals despite not being a regular. He was even the joint top scorer in the league along with Ross County's Regan Charles-Cook in the 2021/22 campaign, his first in Glasgow.

However, when Kyogo was fit he was the first choice at centre forward and Giakoumakis was always going to play second fiddle. There were also reports over a contract dispute and the now Atlanta United forward has confirmed that to be the case after he requested more money after that top scoring campaign.


He also revealed he had the option of going to Denmark with Midtjylland but having experienced the Glasgow weather, did not want more of the same.

He told the Offside with Taylor Twellman podcast: "I said, ‘Okay, you know what? Now you have to give me what I deserve. I was waiting. And then they said no.

"At the end of the day, I was like 'do I want to go there again with this s*** weather - maybe even worse than Glasgow?' One year in Glasgow and I went out with my son in the park one time. That is miserable. I said (to Midtjylland) 'thank you, but I at least need the normal weather' - that was the reason



Carlos [Bocanegra, Atlanta vice president and technical director] was the only one, the only director that flew to Glasgow just to meet me. And I really appreciated that. They showed me straight away that, you know what, you’re really important. We don’t care if you’re going to be able to sign for [us] or not, we just want to meet you.”

Despite all that, the 29-year-old does have fond memories of the club and has only good things to say about it.

He explained: “It’s a massive club, and the fans are making it a massive club. They (the fans) just breathe for football. Nothing else. Nothing else."

Tbf we should've offered him a pay rise. He's not the first player from warmer climates to moan about the weather so I've no problem with that.

 

Only as a secondary factor though. If we had offered him more money he would have stayed.
