We all knew he was getting a new contract. Doesn't change the fact we need investment in that position in the summer.

Was all for an extension but 2 years with the option of a third at the most. 4 year deal most likely on decent wages is a joke and why our squad is so bloated with players who are ultimately not at the level required.

I like Scales but that is a very generous contract. Wee Taylor will be choking for his 4/5 year contact offer.

Deserved the new deal for sure.
    No one can deny that

But that's scales and Welsh both now tied down for the next 4 seasons, neither are actually good enough to take us up the levels.

My only concern, is about what else we do. * all issues with Scales deserving the deal.

CCV, Nawrocki, A.Nother, Scales, Welsh - in that order and we need Nawrocki and A.Nother to be on a par with CCV if we are to improve the squad. Otherwise they need replaced as well. Because, as much as Scales deserves the new deal, he shouldn't be used as one of the first 3 options.

bit of a long contract for someone who should only be making 10 MAX appearances next season. We need at least another 2 CB's as Rodgers clearly does not fancy Nawrocki or Lager.

I know Welsh loves the club but surely he does not want to be 5th choice CB.

Can't argue against that, his first half of the season alone deserves the extension and the bump up no doubt, is a longer contract than I would have thought for him though.

I do want to see him dropping down to a 3rd/4th choice though, we need someone at least at starfelts level to be there and he's just not, I'd ideally like to see an Ajer type to make those bombing runs and drive the attacks

The deal doesn’t bother me because he would be a decent squad player to have around in my opinion. Nothing wrong with that, as long as that’s all he is next season.

Celtic Football Club are delighted to announce that Liam Scales has agreed a new four-year deal which will see him remain at the club until 2028.

The Republic of Ireland internationalist has been a mainstay in the team this season, making 40 appearances to date across all competitions, with one goal to his name in a 2-0 win over Livingston.

The 25-year-old joined Celtic back in August 2021 from Shamrock Rovers and made his debut in a League Cup tie at home to Raith Rovers the following month.

In that 2021/22 season, he made 13 appearances and scored two goals. The following campaign, the Irish defender spent a season on loan at Aberdeen before returning to Paradise in the summer.

And this season, he has played his part in the Hoops’ bid for silverware success, while he’s also now gained three caps for his country.

Liam said: “I am delighted to agree this new contract and commit my future to Celtic.

“I have really enjoyed working under the gaffer, and with such a great group of players this year and I look forward to doing so again in the coming seasons.

“I love being part of this great club and I want to do all I can to contribute to Celtic and bring our fans as much success as we can.”

    It's rewarding mediocrity tbh.

He's perhaps not mediocre as a player but 4 years. Cmon. It also makes him near impossible to shift as his wage will now be huge compared to the level of side who'd actually be interested in him.

£8m on CBs last summer and we still need to give him a new deal.

You need players in the team who "get Celtic" and he is a player with plenty of first team experience....so next season as a 3rd/4th choice he is a perfect fit to have on the bench. Glad he has signed a deal.

I can’t believe in the last two years we have handed out long deals to Welsh and Scales. We probably have room in a squad for one of them but neither is starting quality.

Terrible business he should have been sold in the summer while he had decent stock.
