If he scored 50 goals, propels us the champions league glory, aye. Spend away.

I’ve been sitting on the fence with any discussions regarding Idah. Look I don’t think £5million is a lot for any player these days. And I also don’t mind Idah. But knowing our board, if we sign Idah they would market that as our marquee striker signing and I would bet that would mean we probably won’t not sign any other strikers. So with that in mind, I would not sign Idah for £5m. If we could get Idah for £3-4m as a squad player then maybe.

Idah is not the striker that can take us up levels (especially in Europe). We really need someone in the mold of Dembele/Edouard. I love Kyogo but think we need a better all-rounder. Someone with strength, good aerial ability, decent pace and good on his feet. Brendan spent £9m on Edouard the last time, so there always a chance we could go out and do that again.

    Hahaha no chance.

Saying we have a maximum valuation of a player isn't a Lawwell thing. The low maximum valuation of a player is. E.g. Quibbling over a few £100k for a player.

We're talking £5m over the usual £3.5/4 punts we've been doing. We've got the budget not to * around and just pay the 5 if brendan wants him. I personally want him. We look better when he plays. Who gives a * if it's £4 or 5?

I agree with this. We're stuck in this time warp in Scottish football where £5m is still seen as a major investment. Outside of Scotland, £5m is a punt.

    Not even a punt.

    It's a nominal fee. A gesture.

Fair enough if they come back wanting £15m or some daft English fee but at 5 he's potentially top qaulity. Real top qaulity is probably out our budget anyway.

He is at an age where he can get better. He is potentially as effective as GG and is a very different option to kyogo. Happy to wrap it up for £5m. Push the boat out and get moivski too - that's three decent striking options and probably leaves us in the best shape for striking options since having moussa, eduoard and Griffith's

Bluntly, I like him. He has some good attributes and the holes in his game are things that can be fixed. For example, he absolutely has the physicality to hold the ball up well, Rodgers can teach him how to do that well. I think £5 milliion is about right and I could easily see him going back the the Champuinship for a small mark up in a few years.

When it comes to development, age counts for a lot (it's why I still like Yang and don't like Iwata even though the latter has played a much bigger role).

When it comes to any player, attitude counts for a lot.

Idah has both attitude (in spades) and age on his side.

That’s what most modern clubs have a proper scouting department for though. If Aberdeen can sign a 2022 vintage, rough-diamond Miovski, surely a club of our size can go and get the equivalent of a 2024, better-developed Miovski, or better?

It’s honestly not rocket science: Europe alone is replete with decent options that wouldn’t be good enough for the biggest clubs, but could do a job for us. We can definitely compete with the likes of Copenhagen and Feyenoord. We just don’t bother.

This is precisely what I think about the whole situation. Well put.

I'm on the fence about this. It seems like a fair price for him, but I don't agree with people saying that he'll get better or he's got loads of development in him.

He is tehnically very limited, and that's not going to change. He uses his body well and he's a good team player, but he's not going to take his game any further.

I don't mind him at that price though, my only problem is that if we buy him that will likely be our business done for strikers. If we could somehow get him and a player like Miovski as well I'd be happy.

I like him, he's done really well here and £5M is more than fair imo. However, if we could get Miovski for £5M then I'd prefer him.

Think I'm in the minority who thinks he has pretty much reached his ceiling. If we pay the money I'll back him but I'm not sure he's going to improve much more than what were seeing. I do love to be proved wrong though!

If it’s £5m for Idah or Miovski. Then get Miovski. I don’t think we will sign both, and to be honest, I don’t think we could get three to work here anyway with the system we play.

I don't want to sign him permanently. Not at £5m

But I couldn't think of a worse way to start the transfer window than to announce Scales 4 year deal and Idah 4 year deal.

Knowing we wouldn't go for another striker either, would be depressing as *.

He's not ready made, he's a work in progress and I'm not 100% sure he progresses in to a quality striker for us.

At £5m, we need someone able to walk in to the side and make the position his own. Forcing even Kyogo to up his game.

    Idah isn't that guy.

Honestly I haven't seen enough from Idah that screams to me he's a massive step above Oh, they're both the same age with decent attributes, but nowhere near the finished article and need a good amount of game time to put it all together, which neither are going to get playing second fiddle to Kyogo, same way GG was left behind him getting barely any minutes until he picked up a serious injury.

If the money is similar or a bit more I'd prefer Miovski, or someone more experienced generally that might actually push Kyogo a bit, Oh going out on loan to a team in our league (should have happened in jan) with Maeda or someone from the B team to step up as 3rd/4th choice in an emergency.

As reguards the question of weather to sign Idah, we are getting caught up in the thought process of how much 5m gets you for a striker now, and is Idah worth 5m.

But we need to take it back a step!

With our system 2 top strikers is whats required, and even then we have seen issues with the likes of GG with reguards playing time and more recently if Oh is getting enough game time to develop and that was before Idah arrived. Since Idah has signed Oh isnt getting a look in.

So evidence is 2 strikers is a max we can keep happy and maintain.

So question is if Kyogo is one of them main two, is Idah good enough to be the other striker we have to fire us to domestic sucess and push on in Europe (ie compete better than we have recently)

And if not then we look round and get the best striker we can get that will push and potentially take that main striker role of Kyogo. We dont want a second choice striker, we want one to compete with Kyogo
