This morning i got great views of an escapee Gyr Falcon on my local patch. These are the world's biggest falcons, the size of Buzzards. This was a female, they are actually slightly heavier than buzzards. What a bird, even though it is an escapee it was sensational to see, one fine day if i am beyond lucky i will see a real wild one.

Cheers John, it's my first time trying to post video, there must be a setting i've wrongly clicked, the option i went with says the video is private and only the people that can view it is the people i send the link to, so it's back to watching you tube feckin tutorials until i get it right, i might post again later and see how it goes :50:

A Gyr Falcon....... wow, wow ,wow. What a sighting Good Friend. Even as an escapee, it's a stunning bird. That would top my list for all time, unless I saw a Harpy Eagle or a Stellers Eagle. They might shove the Gyr Falcon off the top of my list.

Right now we have a Robin's nest on a branch in perfect viewing right outside a window in our living room while around the front of the house beside a bush a duck is sitting on a clutch of eggs right up against the house. We had a Robins nest in basically the same area last year too and it was amazing watching the little chicks feeding after they were born and then when they started to fly again was cool to see.

Yes it is really cool spending time watching the Robins out in the back garden and I am always having a peak around the side of the house just to check on our duck mother to be to see she is ok. We are still urban though. I live in the Chicago suburbs. We have coyotes around so the ducks are not entirely safe. But she is actually well camouflaged where she is tucked into the mulch around the side of our house and since she set up and started nesting there we have avoided turning on the lights in the evening. So that will help keep her safe also especially at dusk and dawn when the coyotes are most active. I think the ducks spend about a month on the nest so keeping my fingers crossed it goes well for her. About a week in and so far so good.

Good for you mate, is there a water source nearby for when the Ducklings hatch?

Was just watching the Robin tucked away in the nest for a bit there. For the ducks there is a pond on the other side of the complex we live in so I Imagine thats where mom will be taking her ducklings when they hatch. Having said that we have had a lot of rain lately so if it keeps up our back garden might suffice:84:

Well I can confirm that our Robin has now laid her eggs. So we now have front row seats for a clutch of Robins again this year as well as our duck mother to be still going strong into her second week on her nest.

Another couple from the Trail cam, i'm having great fun with this wee camera, i leave it out in the woods for the week to see what's around during the night, i brought it home today to see what was on it and there was a Badger, a Pine Marten and somebody's cat, so there's always a wee surprise to see, these videos are from a fortnight ago.
