He didn’t mate. We’re a pro football club trying to get to the final of a major trophy, not an under-9s trying to give a wee guy that played well a wee moment because the game doesn’t matter.

Players don’t ‘deserve’ things like that. You get a place in the team in merit and merit alone, on the expectation you will do the role better than anyone else. Same applies for set pieces and penalties.

Joe Hart has done * all in his career to merit being allowed to take a penalty.

I love the guy but this birthday caird ‘deserves’ pish needs binned in general.

Not got a problem with him taking a penalty. It’s just a penalty ffs it doesn’t take any mad skills more bottle than anything. He’s scored before. 2 Aberdeen outfield players missed! It happens.

Happy that he managed to redeem himself today.

I do like the big guy and I'm sure he will finish his career on a high. Surprised me with how down to earth and hungry to actually play football that he was. I wrongly had him down as a bit of a * just before he signed for us, thought maybe he was just up here for a retirement pay-day but I'm pleasantly surprised.

Glad that we will be looking for an upgrade or two in the summer, but he's been an excellent signing for us, no doubt about it

Yes Johnson should have stopped cross, twice ball went to back post if Hart had of stood at back post he would have saved it, he should even come and catch or punch it away

Love the big fella, he's been really good for us.

However, those (admittedly excellent) 2x back post crosses are in the air for a very long time and the headers are in 6 yard box - he should be competing for that ball at a minimum.

On penalties - apparently he's been taking #5 all week at training, so decision made by manger

I love a keeper penalty, they have to know how to strike a ball for Goal kicks etc, it was unlucky to hit the post, it's fine margins. I did have to bite my hand when it missed though,

He was unlucky with the 2 that went under him, could he have done better, maybe but we won in the end so that's all that matters, he made the important save to end the shootout.

Thought his performance in the full shootout was exceptional. Guessed right more often than not, and was really unlucky those balls went under him. Kept his cool, had a we wind up to the Aberdeen player and got in his head, and even then if that ball was going in, hart went the right way and imo would have saved it anyway.

Think he deserves player of the year tbh. What a way to bow out. 100% he'll be the next generation of commentators like Sutton now.

But it’s not as if no keeper has ever scored a penalty. You see it occasionally. Hart himself has scored one before.

I felt slightly more confident seeing Hart step up than I would have done seeing Scales, or even AJ (I know he scored his).

And let’s not pretend Hart is just saving shots all day at training. He’s doing passing work as well, short and long, leathering it etc.

Think it’s being blown way out of proportion.

Again though, what is this supposed to mean? What has AJ done in his career to merit it? Or Scales? Or Iwata?

I don’t understand the argument at all. None of them train to take penalties every day. None of them would include “shooting” as high up in their skill set. None of them have ever shown any level of finishing/shooting to suggest they are a better pick than the other.

Our best penalty takers had already went. If I’m honest, I didn’t fancy any of them after Bernardo hit his. Johnston gave me the fear given his performances and my lack of faith in him accurately placing a shot into the corner of the net.

If they’d worked on penalties during the week and Hart was both confident and showing good technique then why shouldn’t he hit one?

    Find this whole thing baffling.

His technique in the run up to taking it etc all pointed to him missing. So if he does take them in training then it needs more work. We don't trust his ball playing abilities at all so I dont know why we'd trust him with a pressure penalty.

For anyone saying it's just a pen as well, have you seen our record for the past decade or so? Even going back to Larsson he missed a couple pressure ones ffs. Its not as simple as stepping up and booting it as Hart did.

For me it was a needless risk when you had outfield players there with better technique. But appreciate these things are likely decided before the match.

Luckily it didn't matter in the end. Otherwise this thread would have been even worse :BR1:

He has played well in recent weeks, but for large parts of the season, and yesterday, he's not been good enough.

The two penalties that went under him were both poor penalties. Good keepers save those. Hart never looks like he's going to save a penalty.

Looking at his penalty stats he's faced 17 penalties with us and has only saved 2. Both in Europe. He's never saved a penalty in Scottish football.

I think Hart should have done better at their second and definitely the third. The ball was in the air for a long time and the header was from 5 yards out.

I also think when he knows the Aberdeen player is going to head the ball he should be throwing himself and making himself big.

I think too often Hart decides he's beaten too early and resigns himself that the ball is going past him.

That was my favourite bit of the whole game.
If anyone else had missed it would have been a crusher.
But like he said afterwards, he was going to save one eventually and had complete confidence in everyone else to do their bit.
The guy's a leader, he led, messed up, sorted the mess, and led to victory. Loved it

Say what you want about Hart taking a penalty but for me it showed a distinct lack of courage and leadership amongst the outfield players that they were happy to let the goalie take the decisive kick. It was symptomatic of us this season- too many players that shirk responsibility. If we get over the line in the league it has to lead to major change in the summer recruitment wise.
