Maybe nobody else fancied taking one in the first 5, anyone can miss a pen as we have seen so many times before. Thought he a good game, made some big saves and redeemed himself with the penalty save

Giving Hart the penalty kick in what would have been the winning goal was a * liberty. This is not the ‘Joe Hart Show’. Celtic winning the Scottish Cup is far more important than Joe Hart having a nice wee end to his career. Dont want to see any of that * again in the final, the best penalty kick takers take the penalties, end of.

Scenario: It’s 0-0 in the 89th minute of the game v the Huns in the final and Celtic get a penalty (as if lol). ‘Oooooh wouldn’t it be so lovely if Joey can have beautiful little end to his wonderful career, let’s allow him to take the penalty’…..* THAT.

We don't know why he got that penalty. Maybe it actually was a liberty, maybe no one else volunteered, maybe he really is the 5th-best penalty taker (Forrest seemed to hint that something like that might be the case). The older I get, the stranger I find it that we so often take our interpretation, treat it like an established fact and then proceed to get outraged by it.

    We're strange creatures, people.

I don’t know why people are looking into this so much? It was literally the dregs that were left? Joe Hart quite possibly may have been the best option.

Fair enough if McGregor, Hatate, Kyogo, Forrest etc were still on the pitch. Other than that, I’d probably choose Joe Hart over Narwocki etc

Post match interviews with forrest and such suggested he does skelp a good pen.

Thought it was * up myself but for the first and second time in my memory....he saved a penalty (x2).

    Love the big *

He’s not Ederson, in fact he couldn’t be further away from Ederson as far as goalkeepers go. Terrible argument for him hitting a pen.

100% agree with that mate. It felt like this was being turned into The Joe Hart Show rather than Celtic getting to the final. If Aberdeen had gone on and won the shoot-out I for one would have been absolutely disgusted by it.

In fairness, he is DAMNED unlucky with the penalty... Inch to the side and it's nearly perfect! If it had gone in it would've been the best one hit on the day...

    Small margins, big differences... :39:

What about the argument that it was the dregs that were left? He quite possibly might have been the best penalty kick taker left. Celtic are a professional outfit it you haven’t noticed.

Good on him, had the confidence to take the pen and made some big saves including the pen. No hard feelings about him not scoring it one bit.

cue the .. 'but what if we lost' brigade...

We didn't, enjoy the win and have a good night, stop looking for stuff to moan about.

Johnston and Iwata proved they were better placed..

Think Rodgers maybe needs to be stronger as when you think about it, the result would have fallen on him, if it went wrong..

Hart, a leader, confident and probably adamant he takes one, others probably glad he volunteered.. and was a whisker from netting.

So, I can see both sides, but it was * hour.

I'm more disappointed that no outfield player stepped up ahead him for his penalty. Shitebag behaviour that.

Can't fault Joe's enthusiasm, confidence to be part of the team and step up. But never again. Mentally we haven't been great and Joe putting himself up ahead of others speaks to a weakness we've had this season.

Joe Hart has lifted the lid on the decision to take a penalty against Aberdeen during today's Scottish Cup semi-final.

More than a few eyebrows were raised when the experienced goalkeeper stepped up from the spot during the shootout with the Dons this afternoon.

The towering keeper took the fifth pen, with a chance to win it from the spot for his side.

Just like Ryan Duncan moments before though, the ex-Manchester City and England No.1 stuck the post, as he missed the target

Hart - whose 'big mouth' got him in that situation - did eventually go on to become the hero for the cup holders, as his save from Killian Phillips saw the Hoops march on to the final on May 25 where they will play either Rangers or Hearts.

"I put myself forward," Hart told Premier Sports. "I've got the biggest mouth when it comes to penalties and they gave me the opportunity.

"There's a lot of trust and a lot of hard work gone into that. I took that penalty with confidence. I missed it, but what a game eh?

We should have never been at penalties. We should have put that game to bed. James scored probably one of my favourite goals of the season and I was hoping that would win us the game. But we got it done, that was the most important thing."

Hart made amends by saving Ryan Duncan's spot-kick in sudden death to send Celtic through. And his lack of celebration illustrated just how much relief he was feeling after blowing their earlier chance to finish things.

He added: "That wasn't a feeling of elation, that was a feeling of: 'Wow, I really needed to do that for my team, for my club.' I needed to save that penalty. I felt a lot of responsibility having missed.

"The penalties other than mine, were absolutely superb. Huge moments, huge players in a big season for us. We're excited for this season and working hard for it. I put it on the line. So I had to save that penalty."

Love the big man, he's actually become one of our main players with plenty of important saves.

PK wasn't a good decision but he was putting himself up for it.

Just hope it ends with that double for him (and obviously the rest) , that would be exceptional.

I thought that aswell. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Why when you can pick 5 penalty takers.....do you choose your goalkeeper to take a penalty??? It just made no sense. Thankfully the decision didnt come back to bite us in the *. But it nearly did. It just oozed of arrogance from the management team that you would do that. But hey ho. We're in the final and I do like Joe Hart. Aside from Fraser Forster (our best goalkeeper in my living memory) and Arthur Boruc (a big favourite of mine) then Joe Hart has been our best goalkeeper for decades actually

It is shocking he's in the top 5 let alone 5th but it also shows how * we are at penalties.

Miss half our penalties this season then score every single one outwith the keeper in a shootout :giggle1:
