He's kind of the anti-Broony for me: everything good he does is immediately obvious and attributable to him and everything bad he does (such as dawdling on the ball while he looks for the Hollywood pass and selfish decision making) can easily fly under the radar.

Partly that's a function of their positons; but partly IMHO, it's because Broony played for the team and Palma plays for Palma.

He's got talent, I'll give you that; but I won't care when he leaves.

It's obviously not just that, and it's to overlook his flaws to suggest it's just because he's not Jota. He has some obvious qualities - technique when striking a ball, productive in terms of numbers - but his flaws are glaring in my opinion. Far too one paced, doesn't do enough defensive work, and poor decision making. Numbers ultimately aren't enough on their own.

He'll be a big player as we try and close out the title.

That's like saying I'd be more popular with the ladies if I was taller and had a bigger inheritance (whichever interpretation of that word you prefer). It's true, but there's an old Yiddish joke about aunts and uncles...

    He'd better be! :56:
He is capable of it TBF. Hopefully his time out of the team has focussed his mind.

It was tongue in cheek, but I do think the reaction to his performances have been way over the top. He became a bit of a whipping boy at a time when he was our most productive winger.

I disagree with the lack of defensive work, I think that's a bit of a myth. He generally has good pressing stats and worked hard against the huns at CP. He's not Maeda defensively, but no winger is.

I agree his decision making could improve a bit, he does take the wrong option at times, but is it really THAT bad? Generally players with poorer decision making/low football IQ have low goals and assists numbers - look at Yang and MJ for us. Palma blows them out of the water in terms of output, suggesting he quite often makes productive decisions.

Has flaws, sure, but blown out of proportion for me.

Choosing to pick out a teammate in the box rather than attempting to curl in a worldy dosent exactly take much work.

Spot on. If it was just numbers, Turnbull should have been starting every game for us.

I think a big reason why a lot of people like Palma is down to how poor we are in the wide areas overall. Aye he has better numbers than Yang and MJ etc. That's hardly a ringing endorsement.

He's only scored 2 goals and assisted 4 in his last 16 league games (going back to mid November). He's scored 4 league goals from open play, if the info I'm reading is correct.

His poor decision making and knack of giving the ball away cheaply would be easier to swallow if he was scoring goals more regularly and a creative machine. Yes his stats read well for assists but I can only really remember 2 or 3 real moments of magic from him in the build up to a goal.

Has he set the ground alight? No... but the level of some of the comments in here singling out Palma is unreal.... especially when by most metrics as a squad we've performed so much worse then we did last season at that point of 33 games played.

Last season we lost only 1 out the 33 and drew 2 of the 33.... scored 103 * goals 103! And conceded 25.

This season we've lost 3 out of the 33 and drew 6 out the 33 and scored 80 goals and conceded 26.

Take out Palma without knowing what some other random winger could have done and those 80 goals is looking more like sub 60 goals and that absolutely changes this season and makes the table look even worse than it currently does.

All season we've moaned about the drastic change in style of play between the managers and it shows in the league standings... injuries etc... May have also impacted Rodgers season as well as the loss of guys like a Jota and Abada. The failure in Rodgers to play to Kyogo's strengths as well.

But somehow guys like Palma who seem to be getting the brunt of it and already seen as someone who won't be missed if he's sold off next season?

How the * are coming to that decision so quickly after this guy coming over to Scotland and for the most part in a lesser performing team then last season, has still put up the numbers he has?

He absolutely deserves the opportunity to get at next season, with hopefully a more settled squad where Rodgers pulls of a miracle and gets the board to actually invest wisely in positions that desperately need it.

I would personally love to see how he looks next season when we should hopefully have more stability and a stronger foundation

He hasn't played that much either to be fair, only started 5 of the last 14 games and even then only played an hour in two of them and 45 minutes in another.

He has great numbers this season across all teams he's played for

Celtic 23 starts 8 sub appearances 19 goals & assists
Aris 5 starts 0 sub appearances 5 goals & assists
Honduras 6 starts 0 sub appearances 4 goals & assists
Total 34 starts 8 sub appearances 28 goals & assists

Has 5 goals and assists in 9 starts and 1 sub appearance against the Huns, Feyenoord, Lazio, Atletico Madrid, Dynamo Kiev and Mexico.

28 goals and assists in the equivalent of 30, 90 minute games. Played 2698 minutes which is 29.98 full 90s. Or a goal/assist every 96 minutes.

Was a bit frustrating but he hit the ground running, performed on the biggest stage and at one point during a fairly lengthy slog of a spell he was our go to man..

Expect to see a much better player in this current side..

He's also moved half way around the world and got great numbers in his first season. Don't think that can be easy for everyone.

Rangers game at Celtic Park, the defensive job he done on Tavernier was outstanding, Palma came off for MJ when they had 10 men and Tavernier started to run riot. Then Palma got slaughtered for not making the killer pass or goal, when he’d sacrificed his game to stop the only threat they have.

People are weird with him. Look at Idah’s goal on the weekend and unironically label him greedy

I think he is a creative machine though. Creates 4.22 chances per 90 and has 0.6 assists per 90. Compare that to MOR, who has 2.46 chances per 90 and 0.35 assists per 90. By those metrics he creates 171% of MOR creative output.

I can understand the Turnbull comparison, I think Palma has alot more to his game than Turnbull but fair enough if you think otherwise.
