They've spent £10m+ on CBs the last 2 years. £16m+ if you include CCV. Somethings went wrong that's bigger than money spent.

A diamond in the rough that is our defence. He was the only one keeping it from being even worse than it could've been.

He was collosal which is odd considering he was part of a defence which shipped 3 goals in the second half.

Anything and everything that came near him, he was in complete control of. A clear class above everyone else in that backline and really was the only one who carried on for the full 90min and not just the first half.

So composed, cut any threat that came near him and quickly moved the ball on.

Bonkers to think a CB was the best Celtic player in a 3-3 draw. The thought of that gives flashes of Paul Elliott in that 2nd McNeill/Brady era, 35 years ago?

Sensational today, he's ridiculously good in games against them.

Without him we'd be absolutely *... pretty much the only players we have that's irreplaceable

We've basically played two thirds of a season without him.

When you add that to the fact we sold and didn't replace Starfelt it's actually frightening how we've played a majority of a league season without our two best defenders from the past two seasons.

If CCV had been fit, I'd have no doubt we'd be at least 4 or 5 points better off.

We replaced Starfelt... with 2 players when what we needed was 1 quality one.

Hedging bets on hoping one of Nawrocki or Lagerbielke would come good. Who knows? Maybe one of them will, but BR clearly doesn't rate them. Welsh has had opportunities, Phillips likewise... it's been a revolving door and Scales has seriously dropped off in the form that he had in the first half of the season, to Caldwell levels of bombscare.

Was a different sort of game from him today, more last ditch blood and thunder rather than positionally excellent, he was still brilliant but he wasn’t as assured.

Saying that, AJ was a * bombscare and he was covering like * for him

It’s clear to see he needs better around him defensively. I would like to see nawrocki get more time beside him and if he’s not up to the standard we want then bring in another quality CB. Tbh looking at the defence this season I genuinely think we need a new GK (hart leaving), a new LCB, a new LB (needed it 3 year ago) and a new RB. Even though I like AJ he hasn’t looked anywhere near as good as he did last season this season

I’d play Welsh beside him for the remainder of the games. I totally agree it’s better to have a left footed player on the left but he’s been poor for a while now

Nah we'd have lost with Welsh. I'd take any of the new guys though.

He was superb, the confidence he instils in his team mates and us as fans is mental.

    A rock.

Best defender in the league by far..

Scales hasn't been great recently, but don't think we change the partnership now..

Probably need to go into the market again in the summer.

Agree with you about CCV best defender in the league IMHO. Scales has shown himself to be a good option for us this season but he should be the number 3 or 4 center back not starting. Obviously this is it for this season but we need to sign for sure a first team ready center back to play alongside CCV for next season.

As good as he was, I don’t think he was anywhere near as assured as he usually is, he looked a bit off it, and dug deep to make sure he’s dominant. He had a lot more last ditch tackles, more back to the wall style of defending than assured.

However, he was that assured man on the ball at the back, he’s never under pressure man. I can’t think of a single time that he’s had to just panic pass towards a player rather than pick out a good option.
