Worse high foot today in the box at the end of the Liverpool v Man City game, not even a foul or a yellow nevermind a red.. Studs to the chest accidental again but much more contact than anything Yang done.

Was 100% a penalty that, VAR didn’t take a look further because it was deemed reasonable and the ref had seen it and made a decision on field, and not clear and obvious.

But it was a nailed on penalty and booking probably.

Premiership refereeing this season rivals Scotland for incompetence, might actually be worse

Brendan Rodgers says that the best is yet to come from winger Yang Hyun-jun, as he backed the 21-year-old to bounce back from his red card disappointment against Hearts and fight his way back into the reckoning for a start on the right of the Celtic attack.

Yang was at the centre of a controversial afternoon at Tynecastle when he was ordered off by referee John Beaton for a high boot offence after a VAR check, with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers facing a Scottish FA charge at Hampden tomorrow for criticising the official in the aftermath of his side’s eventual 2-0 defeat

Yang subsequently sat out of Celtic’s next two matches, with January arrival Nicolas Kuhn seizing his chance to impress in the Scottish cup win over Livingston and the Premiership defeat of St Johnstone prior to the international break.

Rodgers was frustrated for his player as his own momentum was halted by what he felt was an unjust refereeing decision, but he will be available once more as the champions travel to face Livingston on league duty on Sunday lunchtime, and his manager has backed him to give him a selection headache going forward.

I can see his progress, he did great against Dundee [in the 7-1 win] and he has been progressing every day in training,” Rodgers said.

"We spoke to him, it wasn’t his fault [the red card against Hearts], it was unfortunate and sadly he has missed a couple of games

He will be back and feeling great and if anything, it gave us the opportunity to put Nicolas Kuhn in as well.

"Now he looks like he has come onto his game and looking stronger. He looks a different player in training now. So, it’s been a great opportunity for him.

"If nothing else, after those couple of games, what we gained from that is game time for Nicolas who has shown up really well, then Yang comes back and we have two really good players for that position.

“He has been working on his overall game, his understanding out on the field. HIs analysis behind the scenes. Getting his upper body strength because it’s a physical game here and in Europe.

Whatever league you are in in Britain it’s a physically demanding league. He has just grown throughout the season and it’s so good to see.”

Yang is just one of the summer Celtic signings who have taken time to settle and make an impression this term, flitting in and out of the starting XI despite clocking up 27 appearances in all competitions so far during the campaign, and scoring just the single goal in the 6-0 romp over Aberdeen back in November.

Rodgers says it is only natural that players coming from different cultures and styles of football might struggle to make an instant impact in Scotland, and that is a factor which is sometimes discounted as snap judgements are made and little allowance is given to allow new signings time to acclimatise.

“People not only forget it, but don’t understand it, or don’t want to understand it,” he said.

“You can’t just drop someone into a football club from the other side of the world and expect them to adapt to the culture, food, training, all these various facets it takes.

“Some do, some it takes time, and you have to give those players that time. Especially a young player to come into a club of this magnitude. You have to work with them and bring them through.

“We can see clear developments and hopefully that continues.”

Think he'll be a big player next season. Happy to say I've always backed him, but there was definitely a spell when he looked like it might just not happen for him here. Mind you the whole team was * around that time.

He was ripping hearts to shreds. They had to get him off that pitch for an extended period. Could see exactly what the cheating * were up to. Hopefully he comes back in the same form.

Similar here. Always thought he had something about him but only recently started getting really excited by him. Would be over the moon if he can manage a strong finish to the season.

He's the sort of example that makes me want to see us utilise the loan market more.

I've nothing wrong with signing these guys, Yang, Kwon, Holm, etc if we do it right

We can't flood our own squad with so many projects that all need 6-18months of bedding in time.

I get that they need it and all the reasoning for it. But the club still needs ready made players for these positions at the present. So we should sign these guys, with every clear intention that they are loaned out to a fellow spfl club for a year.

That said, Yang looks like he's finding his feet now and hoping to see a big end of season from him (and Kuhn), could be exciting for next season.

I was staring at the screen in disbelief when Howard Webb tried to defend that decision on YouTube. I think I even commented that we (Celtic) had a player given a straight red for less than that. I had thought that professional referees would solve our problem in Scotland; but this season has changed my views on that. They're definitely a million times more competent than our lot; but the biases are still there on parade for all to see.

Not sure what the solution is now.

I 100% agree with you mate but the thing with Yang is that he would've been perfectly rotated if we had a genuine quality starter ahead of him..

He hasn't and that's why there's been an onus on him making things happen. Far too much pressure for a boy just brought in from the k league..

Weakest attempt at trying to explain it away as well, basically just said the ref made a decision and nothing else in more words.

Honestly, as bad as Scottish refs are, I think we’re actually doing better than down south this year. And we just copy their decisions, so that’s mad.

YANG HYUN-JUN is set to miss South Korea’s Olympic qualification bid next month.

The Celtic winger is one of the stars of his country’s Under-23 side who are aiming to reach Paris 2024

But next month’s Asian qualifying tournament in Qatar does not fall under Fifa’s international calendar.

Celtic are under no obligation to release Yang, who would miss at least four domestic matches if he travelled.

And South Korean boss Hwang Sun-hong admits he’s already thinking about replacements for his foreign-based players.

Asked about the issue, he said: “I will have a final meeting with the staff, but this is a difficult part.

We need to come up with an alternative.

"I am also thinking about plan B.”

If South Korea do qualify for the Olympics, Yang could miss the start of the 2024/25 Premiership season.

The Paris football event runs from July 24 to August 10 this summer — and is listed in the Fifa calendar

Yang Hyun-jun has come back with a bit of tightness, so we need to just make sure that’s nothing more serious. He played two 60 minutes and one 30 minutes whilst he was away so he’s come back a little bit tight. We just have to check and make sure he’s okay

Agree was poor today, so going by his performances this season he should be absolutely unplayable next week

Get that Korean manager told to get to *.

Yang's already missed 4 or 5 games sitting on the bench watching them make a * of the asian cup and now they want him for some pishy Olympic qualifiers.
