They probably did. He only left 4 months ago, I think they would have known something was brewing, think how long it took to punish Toney. Did the Italian FA basically give them the opportunity to sell him so the punishment would fall on a foreign club? That wouldn't surprise me.

Is the club sending him to gambling anonymous? Seems he had a real problem before hand

If Newcastle didn't then they are mental. €70m he apparently cost, may as well have just burnt it.

I think any further action should be served concurrently with his existing ban.

Unless the players are betting on games they have influence I think the punishments are far too harsh.

When gambling is a known addiction, and football sponsorship is overwhelmed with gambling company promotions, it feels like double standards to hammer players so hard.

It’s an addiction whether you are wealthy or not it has the same effect on an individual.
If it was simply about being loaded the easy thing to do to cure it would be to give those addicted to gambling a lump sum and hey presto the addiction is cured .. but we all know that wont work dont we.

it's a dopamine rush (I think), the risk gives it has, making you feel good when winning, * when losing so you try and feel good again.

Some wealthy people will do it in the form of investing, which is still gambling (in a different form) and they get the same rush.

Fair enough. You'd think a professional footballer would get a bigger rush scoring etc. Suppose when your that rich you do stupid stuff to feel good.

Addiction is addiction regardless of the form it’s in, he probably * hates it.

He’ll cop another ban unironically not caring that every time he’ll be watching a game in the league he plays in - sponsored by SkyBet - any game he puts on by Sky you’ve got a fat ‘gangster’ actor aggressively telling you to bet.

They need to take a * look at themselves

How do they get caught? Doubt he’s walked into a bookies or that.Sure players must conspire with each other and/or give their relatives and close friends some cash all the time for a bet and get away with it.It’ll be more widespread than you’d think.
