No harm to the guy but can't say I'm disappointed that he's out 2mo and won't need to watch him

 

I think people might regret saying they are glad he is out, hopefully we don't miss him and whoever replaces him improves the team but he and Hart have been the only constants in defence this season

 

We'd be in a much worse position if he hadn't come in when we had an injury crisis and turned out to be way better than anyone expected. He's not the answer long term and it's a position we need to sort, but anyone saying it's a good thing he's injured needs to give their head a wobble.

 

Strangely, he reminds me of lads I played football with in primary school: you’d always hard one awkward * who couldn’t pass the ball unless he knocked it a yard ahead of himself (and often out to one side or other) first before they lamped it. Actually laughed when I noticed it, hadn’t seen anyone do it for years tbh

You are missing the point, most fans, players and managers would agree that defence is the part of the park where having consitent selections is the most important, front players can rotate easier. You always need a settled defence and him and Hart have had constant changes round about them. That makes having a good defence really difficult and considering that, I think he has performed admirably and done quite well for us. Careful what you wish for

 

We have to be careful not to let the fact that he's not as good as Starfelt make us ungrateful here. The fact is that Starfelt wanted to go and our CB signings were total flops and CCV has missed half the season. We'd be in much worse shape without Scales coming out of nowhere: he's easily been our best regularly available (i.e. not CCV) CB this season and the league would probably already be over without him.

 

I think the commentator last week said there has been 12 different players played across the back 4 this season. Mental

 

I see he was pulled out of the Ireland squad for this international window. Hopefully with the break he has now he will be fit to return at the end of the month against Livingston.

 

still no word of him signing a new contract ,if he is heading into his last year we are gonna have to get it sorted or punt in the summer

 

He absolutely deserves a contract, he's been an important player for us this season, but if he ultimately doesn't sign I'll not be too sad at us selling him. Oy would be a case of go with best wishes for contributing to us and he can hold his head high at that

 

Weird one, because he has been good this season and stepped up when needed most.

But he fundamentally isn't good enough for taking us up a level.

If we sign him on a new deal, it's to be 4th choice at best. Ideally.

CCV, nawrocki and another one need to be the first three and all equal to each other as not to see a drop off in quality.
Scales would be 4th to that.
Is he willing to accept that? Possibly.

But then we have Welsh as well, who has this season signed a new deal.

What worries me more is having Scales and Welsh both signed to new deals. It's not strong enough to have them as 3rd and 4th choice.

Welsh has the advantage of being Scottish but I prefer Scales generally and for his flexibility.

They could be 4th and 5th choice, I suppose but barring this season do we really need 5 CBs?

 

Yes we need 5, because injuries happen and the number of games we play.

I'd have us as CCV, (New,) Rocki, Welsh/Scales as the 5.

Lagerbielke is not favoured so get him away on loan or sale and get a real fit for a first choice

 

I would agree with this given the amount of games we play every season we need 5 first team center backs in our squad.

 

The next CB we sign needs to be closer to CCV’s level rather than the level of the rest of them.

 

Probably isn't unrealistic especially given CCV this year and an additional left-back option. Either way, we definitely need a new one in the summer to partner CCV.

 

Totally agree. Assuming Lagerbielke is sold this summer we should be looking to bring in a center back in that 6-8m bracket who is ready to come right in and as you say be at the level of CCV.

 

Absolutely all of them are at best 3/4th choice.
