Paying £6m for a bench warmer seems excessive.

If o'riley goes at the moment my midfield 3 would be Iwata, Mcgregor and hatate so as much as we need depth I dunno if we are spending £6m on a guy who wouldn't be an automatic starter

To be fair, It's very likely we'll lose Hatate this summer too

That leaves us with McGregor, Iwata, Holm and Kelly, so I'd say we need another two midfielders in the summer.

Not saying I'd pay £6 million for him btw, but I can see why the club would want to keep him, good rotation player if we can get him for less than £4 million.

I dont think we'll lose Hatate this summer due to injuries. He'll want a decent club and we will want the best possible fee. Another year serves us both.

Aye I think we might have him next season now as well. Injuries have probably decided that I think as you say.

I hope yous are both right, and I can see where you're both coming from, but it felt like he wanted away last summer, would be shocked if he wanted to stay another season, injuries or not.

Miller for me should be a higher priority than Bernardo, regardless of the fee Benfica want for for him

To lose Hatate this summer I think he would need to blow the league away for the last few games and have his best form or better, don't see it personally, would love it though as it would mean a title for sure

Aye hatate isn't going anywhere this summer.

You don't sign a new deal in September, when you had 3 years still on your current deal, to have the mindset you're leaving the coming summer.

That's not to say, a club doesn't come in that peaks his interest of course.

But think we safely assume hatate and CalMac are the starting duo in the middle, O'Rielly until he goes. If/when he goes, he needs properly replaced.

Bernardo is the backup trio, which I'm happy to have him there along with miller and another.

Iwata, McGregor, Hatate, Holm, Bernardo, Kelly will likely be our midfield options next year. Could imagine another being signed with more experience and loan Kelly out.

I really don't see it given the season he's had.
He's also on a long term deal and as much as they don't mean much and think he would of been away if he had of had a similar season to last but the 1 silver lining to his constant injury problems are it makes him a lot less attractive to other clubs

There is a real chance the club will drop it's knickers for any decent offer for MoR this summer and that means an opportunity for a starting spot in midfield. Bernardo has only shown glimpses and doesn't contribute enough, similarly with Iwata who is fine domestically passing the ball sterilely around, but not convinced either are dynamic enough. €7.5m is too much based on what we have seen. Arguably there are better players closer to home. That transfer fee could be better spent on Miovski and Lennon Miller from Motherwell. I don't think too many fans would be upset with this, though I still would like to see an experienced midfielder come in a la Mooy to help us.

Captain again today v Croatia U21. Got a goal. 5-1
The £6m floated about still seems far too high, but it would nice to see him get a bit of time in the next few weeks

He’s been a strange one, looks positionally very savy for his age, good at getting the foot in and he showed during that short spell he can be composed in front of goal and in the final third.

But he has completely fell away post winter break again. I don’t know why really, that short run post Hearts to the break he was very good making runs beyond the winger and striker. Could pick out a runner, showed nice touches but he missed chances against Ross County, Aberdeen and Killie and has totally disappeared. Hopefully that goal gives him confidence.

Like most young players still developing, gonna blow hot and cold.

My worry is that MoR leaves this summer and the board see Bernardo as the replacement.

    He isn't ready for that.

The thing for me is it isn’t really blowing hot and cold with him. Barring that run around Christmas to the winter break he seems to have stopped doing the things he was doing offensively in a game altogether and gone back to just playing it safe all the time.

I agree he doesn’t have anywhere near the creativity to be a like for like replacement with O’Riley, I think he does have the off the ball stuff and game intelligence but doesn’t have the eye for a pass.

Although he is young just turned 22 and if we spend £6m or so on him for only 70%, he will be MORs replacement and unless we change the structure of our midfield I am not sure that works.
