Just trying to point out that players with intelligence and technical ability are not easy to produce, as proven by our lack of success recently in that department.

So if we have the chance to bag one, despite him still needing a good bit of work, we should be all over it. Even at 6 million or whatever it is. Different if the guy was struggling to control the ball or pass to a teammate at times, then I'd say it's not worth the outlay.

But the foundation is there. The fact he's been in and out of form is irrelevant, it's what we can turn him into that's important.

It's also weird how willing you are to acknowledge faults in certain players but not others, but that's another story.

I like him, I think he's decent and could become a good player. 6mill seems a bit much though unless he shows he can turn it on more consistently.

Purely hypothetical but that same 6 mill could maybe pick us up Watson and Miller from Killie and Motherwell both of whom I think have more potential than Barnardo

Miller for half of that is clearly a bit more raw, naturally....but I'd rather bring him in and go for someone better than Bernardo..

Miller makes things happen everytime I watch Motherwell or their highlights. Wish I could say the same for Bernardo..

I don't mind him. He does have some qualities but he's very one paced as well which makes his anonymous spells look even worse for me..

It is a lot. When he hit a wee patch of form 6M looked a good price. I thought he was older than 22. That's made me feel better about him.

The fact he’s been in and out of form couldn’t be more relevant, there’s nothing to suggest he can produce for a sustained period of time.

Who/what are you getting at with the last paragraph?

The bald roadrunner gets a pass for weeks on end off you yet you're not willing to give a young talent like Bernardo the time to develop into the superior player he'll inevitably become :giggle2:

Poor timing mate, the bold roadrunner just scored a hat trick to put us through in the cup - what’s Bernardo done recently?

And he's had all the praise he deserves. Love how he doesn't let poor performances derail him, gets back on the horse and carries on regardless. But when he's * he's REALLY * *, Bernardo isn't even capable of dropping to the level Daizen shows on the regular.

Consistency is something Bernardo needs to work on a lot, but when he masters that he'll be a top player. Just think it's daft to throw that away because he's been up and down so far for us.

Difference being one thing Maeda could never be accused of is being passive. Bernardo is anonymous the vast, vast, majority of time he’s had a Celtic strip on.

Suppose it depends what attributes you value in a player as a fan.

If O'Riley is sold in the summer, I'd be ok with paying 4 mil for him.

When Maeda is having a poor game with the ball, he still has a good game without it. His pressing can lead to us winning the ball high up the park. Bernardo in a lot of games he has played has offered nothing.

Not always he doesn't. Plenty of times even his pressing is a liability when he's clattering into folk giving away numerous free kicks. He's been rotten a lot of the time this season even taking his shocking use of the ball out the equation.

Bernardo has all the technique and more importantly intelligence needed to be a top player, pity a lot of our fans haven't the foresight to see what he can become. It's the hight of ignorance if you ask me.

The uncertainty over Callum may mean more game time and/or regular sub appearances.....is he worth £6m, from what we seen so far "maybe" but probably more like £3or4.....if he keeps building on the last month or so and keeps adding to his game consistently, then you have to (at some level) trust the club if they think they are getting a potential £6m player, before he jumps into the £8m+ bracket.

We'll regret it if we don't take up his option to buy. He's clearly class and has bags of talent. More he plays the better he will get. He's the perfect sub for calmac, and going by his calf comment will imo start to be rested more.

He's not a bad player but I don't think anyone's exaggerating when they say he coasts through games or that he doesn't impact them much. His hard work is the bare minimum you'd expect. I do think he has room for improvement and hopefully he shows us a bit more of his ability before the end of the season.

Nitpicking regarding Maeda in my opinion. His work rate is something that cannot be matched by anyone in the league. Whether he is good or bad with the ball in games, you still always get the same work rate, and it can set the tone for us as a team to press high up the park and suffocate teams from getting out.

The money required to sign Bernardo is not far off the fee we paid for CCV and Jota. CCV and Jota were standing out a mile in the league which is why we then signed them. Bernardo has struggled to get into the team this season, and when Hatate is back he won’t be near the starting lineup. For £6m I’m wanting far more than what we have seen from him. He has had the odd moment here and there. He isn’t a holding midfielder, he isn’t particularly creative, and isn’t really an explosive box to box midfielder either. Just a bit meh for me to be honest. Decent footballer but not worth £6m.

To be fair I do get that the 6 million is a lot of money for someone who's been hot and cold, but scratch beneath the surface and it's a no brainer imo.

What do you want from a young player you're looking to sign, or even bring through the ranks? Teaching them tactics and technique is the 'easy' part, but game intelligence is a lot more difficult. If a player is showing that side of the game at a young age it's a rare thing, would be pure stupidity to let that slip through your fingers.

I don’t think it’s 6m either I remember rodgers saying it’s a very affordable price so I reckon around 4m mark which would be a great deal I think

Agreed, if it's 4 that's a great piece of business although I'd personally call six a bargain aswell. Providing we can help him fulfil his potential.

I don’t know if I’d use the word bargain myself for 6mil but I’d definitely still want him for that. Think he’s a very good player and has showed it in big games. Still young aswell I do get the criticism of him kinda and he’s similar to O’Riley but O’Riley will be gone next season I think bernardo will slot in his place fine
