Really missed him today, lack of fight from most of the players, even CCV was poor today.

Brendan Rodgers revealed Celtic captain Callum McGregor could miss Scotland’s friendly double-header against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland later this month.

The influential midfielder went off at half-time in Wednesday’s 7-1 win over Dundee with a problem in his Achilles/calf area and subsequently watched from the stand as his side lost 2-0 to Hearts on Sunday.

“He will have another scan on Wednesday,” said Rodgers after the match at Tynecastle.

“I don’t think it will be long-term but it may last through to the international break.”

Prior to the international break, Celtic host Livingston in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals next Sunday and then have league matches against the Lions and St Johnstone.

Asked if McGregor could miss Scotland’s pre-European Championship warm-up matches against the Dutch in Amsterdam on March 22 and then the Northern Irish at Hampden four days later, Rodgers said: “I don’t know, he may well do.

“He has a further scan on Wednesday and then we will get to see where he’s at. If he’s not going to be involved for us he obviously won’t be involved for Scotland.”

Rodgers, whose side remain two points behind Rangers, will be hoping McGregor is available in time for the top-of-the-table showdown at Ibrox on April 7.

Showed in his absence how important he is to the side. Other than Hart, there is no one else that is close to Captain material. Something that needs addressed

I don't see him as captain material. Not doubting his quality but not the leader CalMac is.

    What?

The difference he makes to the team is incredible. He's a leader and captain material.

Callum's scan is inconclusive really. We had it on our mind anyway he would miss through until the international break and then take it from there. He travelled for the scan but nothing has really shown up, so we'll assess it over the next couple of weeks."

And that's what you get for overplaying him for about 5 years.

How many times have some of us called for him to be rested/rotated because of exactly this happening. Even Ange was guilty of it.

Needs to pack in Scotland too if he doesn't want to be completely finished by 32.

Aye agree with the above, Lennon, Ange and Rodgers were all guilty of overplaying him, it was always bound to catch up on him.

Not really with some players and he’s been one, he somehow looked more knackered and sluggish with a break. Injuries happen, look at Hatate etc this season

I'd be astounded if there was no correlation between the amount of minutes he's played and this injury.

Of course there's no way to tell but we've definitely been guilty of overplaying him for what seems like forever.

Could be, who knows, but there’s guys who miss a lot more games who play far less. Injuries do happen. And BR, Lenny, Ange have all done a rotation option with him before, and when he’s rested, he comes back looking worse than when he doesn’t. You get some guys like that, Scott Brown was majorly like that as well.

Again, could be right or else it could just be like all the other injuries that happen where injuries happen in professional football.
