THE more things change to some, the more they stay the same to Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic slipped off the top of the Premiership last week and the latest accusations for why things have gone off the boil at Parkhead predictably followed.

The tempo has slowed since Rodgers came in for Ange Postecoglou.

    The shape’s changed. Kyogo’s too deep, so’s Matt O’Riley.

The Hoops boss has heard them all and more — but insists he’s hardly altered a thing from the Aussie’s days in the hotseat.

Rodgers said: “I’ve heard and seen how the style has changed, how the system has changed.

But the system hasn’t changed one iota. Not one. Full-backs are still coming inside, wingers still go on the outside. Runs, when they happen, are on the inside.

“That’s always the challenge when you come into a winning team and I’m obviously very conscious of that.

“But also knowing that the philosophy isn’t too dissimilar to how I’ve worked before.

“The system hasn’t changed, the style hasn’t had to be changed, because my teams are fast and dynamic.”

O’Riley has scored one goal in his last 12 appearances after netting nine in his first 23 but has regularly been topping the mileage charts or distances covered in games.

The telepathy he had with Kyogo at the start of the season hasn’t been there, particularly since Adam Idah’s arrival on loan from Norwich

But asked whether that could be down to the fact he’s playing in a more withdrawn role, Rodgers said: “No, he’s not.

“Clearly he’s dried up a bit with goals but he’s playing exactly the same position he’s played all season, as are all the players. Nothing’s changed, nothing different has been asked of them. He went through a brilliant period at the start of the season, scored goals, played a lot of football.

“Then it hasn’t quite come off for him in some of the games where he’s maybe had chances and he can’t score. But he’s not playing any deeper.

“Hopefully at the weekend he can get back to scoring again — then people will say he’s playing higher up the pitch!

“Do people look into things too deeply at times like these? Aye, that’s it. Like Kyogo is being asked to play deeper and do other things, which he hasn’t.

“He’s maybe not getting quite the same through balls and stuff but that’s the nature of it.

“Everyone has a right to say what they want. That’s the free world but we just stay focused on what we need to do.”

Angeball’s motto was ‘We Never Stop’. The Hoops haven’t played at the same intensity this term but that’s not down to a directive from Rodgers

He said: “It’s certainly not an instruction. It comes from the confidence of players. I’ve heard stuff about slower build-up.

“The instruction is get through the pitch with speed quickly. There’s nothing different asked of the players to before.

Not every pass can go forwards. Sometimes you have to change your attack to attack better by making one pass.

“But our game is about progression through the field to create and score goals. That has never, ever changed.”

The absence of major players at big moments has contributed to the Hoops’ wobbles, as has a lack of transfer activity.

But Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston could both return for Sunday’s clash with Motherwell with the Canadian prepared to wear a mask for protection following his recent head injury.

Rodgers said: “What we have missed are players who bring that element to the game.

"Do we need to be careful bringing players back? It’s happened a few times for the likes of Cam.

“We’ve assessed him in training and he feels good. It’s then about managing the minutes. Him staying fit can be a key factor for us.

“Alistair is absolutely fine. I think there will be a mask but it will be whether he decides to wear it or not. It won’t keep him from playing.

Will he wear one of his old ice hockey helmets? I might need to borrow it!”

Hoops players held an inquest in the dressing room after the draw with Kilmarnock which allowed Rangers to move into pole position 24 hours later.

Rodgers added: “There’s such disappointment after games and you have to be careful things don’t get taken out of context but it’s also honesty.

“The players were able to do that, and I can add to that, but I never say too much after games because it’s very emotional.

The manager and the captain at these times are always very important. There are moments you have to step up and lead

And Callum McGregor does that brilliantly. He’s experienced and manages the dressing room really well.”

Had a look at some of the posts in the Brendan Rodgers thread on Leicester's forum from this time last year.

It's scarily similar to this one. From the football, the tactics, subs, his comments, the player regression, the apathy amongst the support. Even the arguments for (there aren't many) and against him are the same! I mean really eerie stuff.

He ain't turning this around, I'm 100% convinced of that.

Paying £2m+ a year for him to come in and do a tribute act to Ange.

He was hired bcoz at 1 time he was a top coach maybe it's time he got back to that and maybe it is time to change things around bcoz to turn round and saying nothing had changed and no instructions to players have changed all season is * worrying given the football had mostly been * and changes should have been put in place months ago.

Sorry to quote myself but I'm still shocked at this!

For anyone bored or sad enough here's the link: https://www.foxestalk.co.uk/topic/125376-brendan-rodgers/page/2000/#comments

That's page 2000 but you start anywhere from page 1950 to read what basically looks like a Celtic forum this season.

He's literally turned us into Leicester from last year.

Exactly sir, but all the Rodgers haters on here don't want to hear that and expect Rodgers to be able to pick up a * by its clean end.

If he had the team he had in season 1 he'd be out of sight in the league. The team he is currently being forced to put out is one of the worst Celtic sides in the last 30+ years.

Nobody is denying he's been let down by the board, however he still make better use of the squad than he is doing.

Lager and Rocky could be the CBs with Scales moving to LB. Straight away that would be better.

Iwata could come in and offer the defence some protection.

Also when he starts with two strikers and it seems to work, don't then change it to one striker.
Even if it means one of them having to play the full game.

Even with five subs, at least 6 players will be on for the whole one of those 6 could easily be a striker.

At St Mirren in the cup he changed to one and StMirren started to come into the game more. The same happened against Killie and cost us to points.

We tried Lagerbielke and Nawrocki earlier in the season at Kilmarnock in the cup. We lost 1-0 and didn’t look great. Lagerbielke seems to be getting better the longer he doesn’t play. He is painfully slow and gave the ball away constantly.

Surely given time and games together they could possibly have improved. Kilmarnocks pitch is hardly a decent surface to judge a new CB pairing on tbh.

Pushing Scales out to LB and playing they two together at CB must be better than what we've had recently.

So we tried it in one game on a dodgy pitch when both players had only been at the club 10 minutes and that's enough to say it can't work ?
Lager was did ok against the huns and apart from his red in the CL I think he's always done ok.
He was Swedish footballs' defender of the year last year. Rocky was on stand by for a call up to the Poland International squad.
If Rodgers can't get a performance of of them, then maybe he's the problem.

You'll need to remind me how we've done against Killie without them.

They should be given more time.

He just put the last nail into his coffin. The tactics, style haven't changed? :giggle1: He lets us play fast and dynamic? :56: So if he doesn't see what's going wrong, how should he be able to change it?

Or worse for him, he instructs the team to play like Ange but they don't listen or he is unable to reach them with his messages. Which would mean he has lost the team.

In both scenarios he has lost it and won't be able to recover. We all have seen this before with other managers and at other clubs. He just clarified with that interview that he won't be able to turn it around.

With only two points behind we could still win the league but we need a whole new dynamic in the team and Rodgers didn't manage to do that for a half a year now.

Maybe. Lagerbielke did get games though and didn’t look good at all in my opinion.
