Is giving 100% all it takes to start for us now though?

This is what I don't get with the defence of him. Giving 100% won't win us games alone. We need end product and regular goals, assists and moments of magic. He offers none of that.

Also in the least smarmy way possible how do you propose we use him right against pafked defences? This was a failure of his even under Ange.

Maeda is effective in the right squad. Same as kyogo who's not really been the same since Rodgers came in. Most of the team aren't effective because they're not used to their strengths . Maeda is a bit of a special case granted but he can cause other teams real chaos

The guy done well under Ange, but even lacked the basics then.

at this minute he looks like he doesn’t want to be here and whatever skill he had has

disappeared, runs around like a headless chicken, a poor poor player ,he needs to go.

try fitting him in a taxi ffs

Again though how? Like how do we use someone who's only real attacking attribute is blistering pace when teams give us no space.

For me he doesn't suit the vast majority of our games. If a team is packed in tight and we need his ability to beat a man, cross it or shoot he's a man down more often than not.

    Same as many tbh.

Effective in the right squad maybe. But for me it's not ours.

Utilising Daizen more effectively, I’d throw Kyogo in there too, means doing something we don’t do much of anymore.

    - Faster ball movement. Even lower percentage passes are needed.
    - Counter-pressing. We have injuries and a weak bench but we need to get back to this relentless style to enable faster ball movement. When we lose the ball we’re hounding.
    - Widen the play more. Isolate Daizen with deeper wide play on Palmas side. Overload Palmas side with Taylor and spring Daizen with long switches.
Palma needs to do more to attract doubling up using his ‘skill’ and pulling centre backs wider or centre mids wider.

Inviting the opposition onto us and then being more direct rather than safe has its risks but it will be far more rewarding. Sadly it’s alien to Rodgers so here we are playing against our players wonderul attributes such as pace and energy.

I saw this on FotMob. I knew Maeda wasn't contributing alot in an attacking sense. But according to the stats, his defensive play isn't that good this season either. I feel like Rodgers has basically nullified his best attributes.

Would you believe me if I told you Palma had more blocks, duels won, recoveries and possession wins in the final 3rd per 90? I wouldnt have believed it.

I remember him winning the ball back high up the pitch loads under Ange. He was a nightmare for defenders. Of were going to play him why aren't we pressing like * as a team?

Edit: Having looked more his defensive stats aren't actually bad at all for a winger, but they don't stand out above other players, which is more the point.

One of the worst footballers in terms of technique, final product and basic football skills I have ever seen at Celtic.
    World class headless chicken though.
Every time I see him start my heart sinks - no where near a first team Celtic player - but yet he is, shows how far standards have fallen.

I don't get the irrational love in for Maeda. Can understand having him when playing higher level opposition, only for his work rate. Playing domestically he is all over the place. Keep hearing about his pace but how often do we hear about him going past the full back? Against Kilmarnock he constantly played the ball back or inside. When balls were played over the top he was nowhere near them. This happens almost every game now. He also looked uninterested. Technically he is an embarrassment for a pro footballer. Often unable to control a simple ball and his crossing is a danger to air traffic. He seems immune to any criticism from some fans. The sad thing is, is that there are little other options.

    But yeah, his work rate.

Aye i thought he'd stand out more on some of these stats. Im sure his running stats are great, but not included here. This is Palma, for comparison: Screenshot_20240223_045029_Chrome.jpg

First off i think hes better on the left.

Not saying he should start there but Palma has been poor recently.

I actually feel under Rodgers he would be suited as a sub to come on with half an hour to go if we are winning.
Teams would be forced to play a bit deeper due to his pace, yet because they would be chasing a goal it might strech them a bit more

The annoying thing for me more than anything is when he isn’t on the pitch, everyone is far more static than when he is. Partly due to his movement, engine and stuff.

but honestly, feel like his workrate shames others into moving more than they do when he’s not there.

I’d love to see distance run stats with him and without

2 years is certainly enough for me, and 45 minutes today is enough.

This man is a scammer. No danger we have a guy playing week in/week out for us who can't trap a ball, pass a ball, cross a ball or strike a ball.

One trick pony, can win balls through pressing high, can't do nothing with them once he's got them. Squandered numerous good chances and positions. Start Palma every week.

Works in Ange's system (even then, only just) and that's it.

    Utterly abysmal today.
