Scales has been superb, surpassed all expectations and for that he deserves all the credit coming his way. That being said let's not be blinded just because he has been our best performing CB this season. Even on current form he wouldn't have displaced CCV, starfelt, jenz and it's a close call with Welsh to be fair. No doubt he has very quickly improved his game but I don't believe he is better than all of the above just over night. I think that makes his impact look bigger and better.

Got no issues having scales on a long-term contract though. I think as a backup cb goes, he would be spot on

5 year deal would be stupid.

Therefore we will probs do it.

5 year deals should be offered to guys like CCV, Kyogo, Hatate, MOR etc to keep them here for as long as possible / make as much money as we can when we sell them. Real star players who we should be building our team around.

Scales has done a great job but he isn't in that category. Welsh was given a 4 year deal in the summer and that was excessive. Would be the same for Scales. They're ultimately both going to be back up centre backs.

A 2 year extension would probably be enough.

I still cant believe the criticism he gets from some corners of our support. Its just snobbery for me.
We could spend millions on defenders who dont adapt to the club, dont “get the club” or who simply flop. And theres a defender right before us who is minimal fuss, committed to the cause and who has done it in big games including two big games vs Rangers.

If he continues the way he is going, he will be in the SPL team of the season and if we win the league he will be one if the main reasons why. A mainstay so far, who without, things might be a lot worse.

He's going to be low on the pay scale and allows us to target 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice CBs of better quality over the 5 years with a safety net.

Not saying it absolutely should be 5 years but if this season isn't a fluke then it's not crazy.

Well deserved, he has really stepped up this season when we needed him a lot more than we thought we would. Hope he goes from strength to strength.

Plenty still expecting the bhoy to fail eventually I see.

I fancy him to go up another level again if and when he gets CCV back beside him. 5 year deal would be fine by me.

I actually expect him to keep improving. I'd be disappointed if we've seen the best of him.

5 years does seem a lot though

He has surpassed expectations this season in his breakthrough season with us. He could kick on again next season and all of a sudden it looks like great business to have him tied down.

Not every player can be on the kind of money CCV is on, our wage budget has constraints. Having players like Scales on less money actually helps that.

He has really grown into the role of CB and is coming into the right age to really add maturity that is required. We can see what spending £ms on projects and gambles, and even bringing in loans such as Philips has cost us. Scales is better than all of them. And will get better.

Think the purple patch is over.

I don't really blame him cos he shouldn't be starting for us. He's taken his chance and that's fair.

But he isn't of the level required. None of that back 4 are.

Absolute murder to watch for me, not half the player of Mulgrew

His lack of being able to turn on a ball is infuriating and the way he always has to position himself to make a pass giving away where it's going because the way he moves.

The amount of times he under hits passes as well or passes behind guys.

It's like he has to concentrate too much on what he's doing when on a ball he's oblivious to everything going on and then just makes the basic easy pass.

As I said, a 5 year deal would be madness.

He’s done a good job this season, under the circumstances, but he’s so limited. Abysmal on the ball.

When we drop points fingers start pointing at him. When we win people ignore the amount of times he gets caught out. He is at fault for so many of the chances created against us.

The amount of chances our defenders gift is criminal. Our defenders are caught out or are second to nearly every cross into the box.

Teams don't have many attacks against us, but most of their attacks end up with clear chances.

Our backline weren't the problem FS. We had nothing upfront. Absolutely nothing.
