Scott Brown insists the gap between Celtic and Rangers remains 'quite big', as the former Hoops captain admits he would love to see a return to the old away ticket allocations.

The recent derby between the sides was the latest in which there were no away supporters in attendance.

The stand-off between the teams has been ongoing for numerous years after the Ibrox side decided to cut the number of away tickets handed to Celtic from around 7,000 down to 800 - the amount given to every other team in Scotland.

Celtic retaliated by cutting Rangers' allocation to the same amount, however, the situation has become more strained in recent times with both teams just hosting their own fans in their respective home fixtures.

Broony reckons old, traditional away supports were halted because Celtic kept winning at Ibrox.

But the ex-Scotland international would love to see them back as the fixture is suffering as a result.

The Rangers and Celtic games, they're always hard because there's no (away) fans now," the 38-year-old said. "That's the hard thing, you want to go away from home, you want to see your fans as well.

"I think they should try to get that back. You want to have that. Understandably the fans want to see you at Ibrox, scoring and celebrating. It's part and parcel of the game.

"I think it all stopped when we kept winning. I think that's maybe why it stopped."

On the current state of both teams, Broony added: "Celtic have got a strong squad.

"As we saw, the gap when the teams played the other day, it was quite big. The way Celtic's front three pressed, the way they got after the ball, the quality they've got, I think that's the difference."

I get the fear when I see this thread bumped these days.

We all do understand he's the next Celtic manager, right?

Ayr United are delighted to announce Scott Brown and Steven Whittaker as the club’s new management team, joining as Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach on contracts until at least June 2026.

Following the announcement, Club Chairman David Smith said “I am delighted to welcome Scott and Steven as the new management team. We have had a busy 8 days conducting informal conversations and more formal interviews with a number of very credible candidates and Scott and Steven showed lots of positive attributes that made them the preferred candidates for the club.

They are clear in the messages they want to communicate to the players and will use the staff group that we have assembled to the fullest in order to improve players and achieve performances and results on the pitch. They have a very good personal and working relationship and were very clear on how their dynamic works.

We are delighted to secure their services and are very much looking forward to working with them going forward”

Managing Director, Graeme Mathie said “I’m really looking forward to working with Scott and Steven.

Following their successful playing careers, both have undertaken coaching roles alongside gaining their coaching qualifications; Scott at Aberdeen before joining Fleetwood as Head Coach and Steven at Dunfermline in the Scottish Championship.

Having both played at the very highest level they are both aware of the standards required to be successful, and - whilst we won’t be able to provide the luxury of some of the resources they’ve enjoyed previously - they have shown an ability to adapt to the environments they have been working in when required.

This is an exciting appointment for Ayr United and I have no doubt will be remembered as an exciting period of time on our journey.”

I feel like that’s a good move for him.

We should send a few players on loan.

Although he is there to stop them relegating, he's actually only 4 points from the play offs so it is still possible.

Anyone thinking Broony will eventually become the Celtic manager is having a laugh. This might sound harsh but he simply doesn’t have the personality, charisma or brains for it.
