So he contradicts his own statements? Not really news is it?

It is a safer style of play. Passing 10 yards to your fellow centre back is safer than trying to break lines with a pass.

Even if Rodgers signs the next Van Dijk to partner with CCV, they’ll still be playing a lot of side to side stuff. It was the exact same his first time here.

Actually, it's not safer. That's what most managers seem to think. But most trouble I've seen happen comes after a sequence of "safe" passes goes wrong. Be it us, South Korea at the Asian Cup...

I can't remember when a nasty counterattack happened from an audacious through ball or lofted pass onto a target-man being intercepted.

Not really; but although I like to joke that if he told me grass is green, I'd go outside and check, it's actually the one time I'd believe him. On this occasion, he is saying something that is obviously true and that we can all see; he's probably not lying for once.

Isn't your first point really the same thing though. It's Rodgers accepting mediocrity because he doesn't feel he has the players to play how he would want.

Not really mate. If he's insisting on them trying to do something they aren't capable of and that results in this stupid horseshoe, that's not the same thing as telling them to do the horseshoe because he doesn't want them to take any risks (even though, by his own admission it's actually more risky).

In both scenarios he's to blame; but the first one sounds like something Rodgers' ego would plausibly do, while the second would require him to be extremely stupid (which he isn't).

You could make a compilation of when we've invited pressure by doing this and it's nearly resulted in a goal this season. There's playing side to side and then there's this and this is not safer.

I actually agree with the second statement. Hopefully you see this when you wake up from your nap.

Didn't we score from the latter against Rangers? ;)

No, but seriously, it's a fair point.

Clear his weakness is with the ball at his feet. Can’t just hit a first time pass or while the balls moving quick, always takes 2-3 touches to steady him before a pass and slows us down. He is a centre back though at the end of the day and thought he was quite good again today defensively. Made a nice block in the box second half again. Would like him to try release the ball quicker though in posession

Found him very frustrating today. Couldn't seem to find a forward pass and constantly just playing it back to Welsh putting pressure on him

Ive defending him a lot and I think he’s a good defender, but if we’re going to evolve as a team in possession then we need a lot better to be playing there every week.

I’d happily keep him as back up, and he’s shown he’s good when we’re backs against the wall, but we need better.

    He's rancid on the ball.

Aye he gave the ball away a good few times come to think of it. Defended well but some of it was his own making for sure
